COALITION SUES EPA FOR FAILING TO ADDRESS FACTORY FARM AIR POLLUTION

These People Never Stop!

WASHINGTON, D.C. –
A coalition of environmental, humane and community organizations filed two lawsuits against Environmental Protection Agency today for failing to address air pollution from factory farms. The pollution contributes to significant human health problems, including asthma and heart attacks; endangers animal health; intensifies the effects of climate change; and causes regional haze and “dead zones” in waterways.

Across the U.S., an estimated 20,000 factory farms confine billions of chickens, hogs and other animals and emit noxious air pollutants, including ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, volatile organic compounds, methane and particulate matter.

The Environmental Integrity Project and the Humane Society of the United States filed the lawsuits in federal court on behalf of rural residents and family farmers whose health and quality of life is affected by noxious air pollutants from factory farms.

“When the emissions are at their worst, we have had to leave our home for days at a time,” said Rosie Partridge, a rural resident of Sac County, Iowa, whose home is surrounded by more than 30,000 hogs within four miles. “The ammonia and hydrogen sulfide are so strong that my husband has trouble breathing.”

The lawsuits seek to prompt EPA to take action on two rulemaking petitions. Those petitions, filed years previously, asked EPA to use its authority under the federal Clean Air Act to control emissions of air pollution from factory farms.

Farmers have a right to farm. The reason? It's because they are the only ones putting food on our tables!

I remember house hunting 25 years ago here on the Shore and finding a marvelous ranch home with a sunken family room and fireplace and well within our budget. But when I went outside to look at the view, there were chicken houses on 3 sides of the lot.

Walking away from that purchase was a very simple decision! I suggest more people like Rosie Partridge and her husband practice doing that as they shop for their new home!

Leave the farmers alone; they are feeding us! If you wish to boycott, however, feel free to quit eating food.

"They" want us to eat bugs because compared to other nations, we eat too good. Sauce for the goose. No other nations produce what we can & we need for it to continue! The epa can go suck on bugs if they so desire, but let the rest of us eat what we want.

All the people in these groups have made their millions and now want to impose this BS on us poor citizens.

I would agree with you if this were against 'family farms'. However, 'factory farms' is different.
I think that these factory farms should be regulated so tightly as to force them to sell back to families and move their corrupt business practices on to something else.

thetruth speaks the truth. Even China isn't allowing their land to be turned into a toxic waste dump but we are so we can feed the Chinese and the rest of the world all in the name of free trade.
The Chinese are producing and exporting to the US electronics, machinery, clothes, furniture, etc.
We're exporting to meat and in the process getting stuck with massive amounts of manure that no one has a use for.

The EPA is controlled by Big Business. It's a way for Big Business to control competition. The democrats are behind this too as they want all trade, commerce and services controlled by a few big businesses, leaving consumers with little choices on what to buy and workers on where to work.
