BALTIMORE — A Coast Guard boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Ocean City assisted four boaters Saturday after their 25-foot boat became disabled approximately 50 miles east of Ocean City.
A crewmember aboard the 25-foot boat contacted the Coast Guard via VHF marine radio channel 16, stating their boat was disabled, and they were in need of assistance.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore launched a crew from Coast Guard Station Ocean City aboard a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat. The crew arrived on scene at approximately 4:30 a.m., where they took the four boaters aboard and placed the boat in tow. The crew made it back to Ocean City at approximately 10 a.m.
“It was a long evolution,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Brandon Scott, a crewmember aboard the MLB. “Because the crew of the disabled vessel was prepared and had a marine-band radio aboard to contact the Coast Guard directly, we were able to respond and had no issues finding them.”
The disabled boat was towed to the Ocean City Marina.

thats an awfully small boat to travel so far offshore.
I hope the disabled boat owner reimburses the Coast Guard.

11:15-You would not believe how small some of the boats are that travel 50 to 60 miles out.One Saturday at app the 30 mile area one of those boats that steers by an engine tiller passed our charter boat.The boat itself was only 14'long,which meant the gas cans necessary filled up 1/3rd of the boat.Crazy or brave?
12:59 you are assuming a lot with your statement. There is a formula to figure out how much gas one needs to go a set distance depending on sea conditions, speed and engine size. So unless you were actually the guy on the boat you are just supposing! Of course he was a fool but then God smiles on fools too! I'm betting he even caught more fish then you! lol!
That's not much better than the fools who take bass boats out on the bay.
