Amish, Others Rally For Midwife Bill

A bill to license certified professional midwives in Maryland promoted a rally Thursday in Annapolis.

The legislation attracted hundreds of mothers, children and a few members of the Amish community from the Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland to a rally on Lawyer's Mall.

The rally was organized by the group Maryland Families for Safe Birth.

Many of the mothers who attended today's rally told WBAL News they preferred giving birth at homes, because hospitals often force women to have C-sections. They argue the home birth is more natural.

"The United States has a very high C-section rate, and they (women) are scared away by that," said Lukee Morin of Baltimore, who gave birth to her two daughters at home with the help of a midwife.

No problem…natural selection. Born at home and survive…great. Have complications, don't come running to the emergent room without insurance and expecting the rest of us to pick up the bill.

Again, replacing a completely natural cycle into a Doctor's convenient schedule. Give women control over what they want for their bodies.
