If HHS Issues A Pork Mandate, Will Jewish Rest Homes And Muslim Soup Kitchens Comply?

What will come next? Will the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issue a Pork Mandate as part of ObamaCare? Will this be the next shoe to drop? Sound ridiculous? But, wait. Here’s what the pork industry says about pork, “the other white meat.”

Pork today compares favorably for fat, calories and cholesterol with many other meats and poultry. While providing a greater amount of vitamins and minerals, many cuts of pork are as lean or leaner than chicken. Pork tenderloin, for example, is just as lean as skinless chicken breast and meets the government guidelines for “extra lean.” In total, six pork cuts meet the USDA guidelines for “lean,” with less than 10 grams fat, 4.5 grams saturated fat and 95 milligrams of cholesterol per serving.

This is a fairly persuasive catalog of the benefits of pork versus chicken. The case for pork is even stronger when compared with beef. And isn’t it the case that the fat and cholesterol content of beef has been a subject upon which nutritionists and cardiologists have been writing for some time?

hhs needs to keep their hands off any group that has their religious beliefs. there's a reason the jewish people don't eat pork and other things like some seafood. this has been their beliefs since God set down His word and gave it to them so very long ago. it's NOT hhs right to change anything here.

if you have never read about this in the bible don't try to make a comment. if you don't understand this don't make yourself look stupid. just sayin'.

Being Catholis/ Christian, I still had some interactions in my life with Jewish people which made complete sense. Not eating beef with milk is one. Honor the cow by use in life or in death, but not both in the same meal, as I understood it. (Please correct me if I'm wrong here) I also learned NOT to order bacon and eggs at a Jewish breakfast shop!
Everyone to their beliefs, and I would like to hear about yours, not discrimonate against you for having them!

the book of leviticus in the old testament of the bible gives reasons why no pork and other food issues. makes sense to me.

The Bible....the Koran.....the Talmud/Tora.....the Sanskrit etc. All brought to you by the same people who thought the Earth was flat. All fine for the time period that they were written in............it is now 2012. Not judging anyone here, but just hoping that we evolve a bit.

yes, pork fat rules for many, but i'm not going to take away someone elses religious beliefs. it has nothing to do with "evolving a bit". this is a religious belief; not trying to decide whether or not to wear a dress or slacks. these are dietary laws given to the jewish people by God and they chose to abide by and follow these laws. you don't just change your mind because "man" doesn't agree with you.

11:40 same people? All have different beliefs. Wow, I'm so impressed with your progressiveness.

427-I know many jewish folk, many of which eat pork on the sabbath! I'd go as far to say as high of a percentage of catholics who use contraception there are jews who eat pork. It's ok. Really, it is. Pork. Is. Tasty. If the Lord himself was walking on Earth today, I'd bet my life savings he'd enjoy some bacon, ribs, pulled pork. He'd acknowledge it's awesomeness.

Yeah- we just HAVE to keep religion out of government HOWEVER when it affects the muslims something has to be done to stop it. Can't link marriage and religion because the gubment is in that business now but we can't feed people pork through the gubment because the Muslim Brotherhood might not like it. Definition of sanity must be constantly 'evolving'.
