A Comment Worthy Of A Post 4-24-12

As soon as the video starts, look at the left of the screen. You will see 4 or 5 get thrown, and that was over a 3 second period. I am sure that this video will be deleted soon because we wouldn't want to see the little angels misbehave.

Looks like if something was thrown....it was by one person.not the while crowd.and to be honest....the one person looks like he throw beer itself on people not bottles.or he can rapid fire three bottles.it looked more like a NASCAR winner throwing Pepsi or coke onto people to me.

Those were thrown empty up in the air in celebration, not "Thrown at POLICE" in hate. I see littering, okay, not assault!
Jeeze!

The cops over reacted and could have easily start what could have turned into a real mess. No warnings...no bullhorn annoucements...no nothing. College kids are gonna do what college kids do...I know I sure as hell did. It should have been handled differently.

Thanks Joe for posting this, while I think it only shows a very minimal portion of what happened. I spoke to so many kids (I say kids because each one was underage) that all say this party was way out of control. Many people had advised through various outlets that the kids were running in the road, taunting cars to hit them. I am sure there are more videos out there and for the few that were arrested the videos will be used in court. I understand the kids want to party, but they need to respect others since their parties aren't on a campus and in our community. The University keeps growing rapidly, yet the housing doesn't even provide room for a fraction of the students. The students only immature response is that if we (the community) don't like their parties we should leave...well this is my permanent residence, they are guests in MY community and should respect it as such.

This is pretty thin, even for your blog's typical air of reactionary sensationalism. Obviously the things being thrown were akin to a singer tossing water bottles of the stage at a festival. An activity that has never been met with force from chemical weaponry.

All those kids with video cams and absolutely NO ONE got film of a can thrown AT an officer! And, I don't even see an officer present in the video supplied! This must have been taken before they arived!
Headline:"SPD Loses All Credibility".

Just from seeing the location of the police in the other picture it does look as if they are throwing the cans in that direction. You have hundreds of kids and only a few police. He can not see those people all he can see is cans being launched his way. These kids like most others do not respond to any authority. I bet the next time the police tell them to do something maybe they will listen. There is trash ALL over the place that shows a complete disrespect for Salisbury. The university police should have also been involved in this since it's their students.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I am wrong but if you look at the video and stop it as its panning to the right you can almost see the pepper spray. It's like a yellow fog.
I also clearly saw at least 2 cans being thrown in that direction.

Well Salisbury gets what they deserve.See what electing good old boys gets ya..getting your buddy the city bids gets ya..The city created this problem by 1 STATE NO LONGER ALLOWS ACOHOL ON CAMPUS..2- CITY approving permits for this crap (ie hooking up barries buddies)and alowing student housing to be built there. o central student housing area would slove this problem. The current issue is...allowing this crap in residental zones.Remeber 4 to 3, the Howards.. This is a university problem send em all back to campus allow acohol at parties and problems solved.. IN MY OPIOION IF YOUR OLD TO DIE FOR YOUR COUNRTY YOU SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DRINK ..END OF STORY..

Cans? What's a can weigh? And its obvious if it is cans...they're opened.so....throw an open can and as it flies it empties more.now you have what three ounces of weight that can harm? Oh yeah I forgot ...probky could hurt those officers.they are soft as marshmallows.won't go to the ghetto to do real police work but sure as can be will show up to the college to deal with kids.pathetic.leave those kids alone.finally out of their parents houses hoping for four years of fun before the enter the hell obama has created for them and the torment of life itself.

Really? What if you lived in that neighborhood and had small children? You would not be happy with 1000+ underage partiers on your lawn/streets.
Maybe if this country stopped teaching children to be entitled to everything they would have more respect. Some of the videos show kids arguing and mouthing off to police????
Also, wWho is going to clean up the mess left behind by these disrespectful brats.
If you ask me every single kid who can be identified should be expelled from school immediately and/or forced to do community service in the neighborhood they just trashed.
There are plenty of kids who want to go to college to learn not party and i am sure they would gladly take these delinquents places at SU

Anon @ 7:27 if you live near there with small children than you should have known that you were moving into a college neighborhood. However I could be wrong and maybe you've been living there for about 100 years.

How dare these "kids" come into our town and act like it's a "party town." Stay on campus and let SU deal with your activities.

7:53, Many of us lived here when the college was a little teacher's school. We embrace having a college in our town but we are not a college town. We are a town with a university in it. Read the law. It is clearly being broken. Tis is a residential neighborhood not a college dorm. SU, SU Baord of Regents, take responsibility for this lawless behavior. Those who study hard and graduate from SU don't want future employers going to You Tube and seeing this as the reputation of their school.

Janet DUdley and the slum lords have been nurturing this beast for years. However, we need to remember that this is a small number (compared to the enrollment) of the students at the University. Most are courteous and volunteer in various clubs and our community. I hope that they take a stand against this disruptive nonsense and stand for academics and those of us who welcome the good students into our community.

Things change.salisbury didn't use to be the fourth most dangerous city in the country.the constitution is toilet paper. and colleges grow and expand.salisbury isn't mayberry any more.one of the few things salisbury has got going for it is su and its expansion.we need to embrace the change.and your just need to change.

are you that dense? This is a college town. There are ~6000 students at SU now and it is constantly expanding. SU Greatly helps the local economy, you have to take the bad with the good.

There is nothing in this video that proves a beer hit a cop even if it did, thats no reason to just start taking out pepper spray and spray the crowd like youre watering the plants in your front yard.

You guys act like this happens all of the time. It doesnt. There are hardly ANY parties in salisbury anymore because the police are more worried about students having fun rather than focusing on the actual crime that this city has.

Its kind of pathetic that the SBY Police require help from the state police on the trouble in this city, but can afford to send cops to a large party and waste resources. There were no fights, there was no malicious damage and the students who live there would clean up all of the mess, just like they did last year and the year before.

I like how all of you baby boomers on here are complaining about kids this and kids that. newsflash, your children arent angels and you wonder why kids act the way they do? Well you are the ones who raised them all arent you? Oh, right, YOUR little angel would never do this. Get a clue. Kids will be kids. Maybe if the police would have just sent a few cops there to maintain a little order while this went on, everyone could have had fun and nobody wouldve gotten hurt. But its funny, nobody WAS hurt until the police showed up.

This happens every single year on the same weekend. Police know about it. They should have prepared for this and not act like the WAR ON THE SHORE doesnt happen every. single. year.

Protect and serve... right.

I hope you are not a college student because your grammar sucks. I've seen graduates of UMES speak better than you.

When you guys say kids,I think back to when I was a kid in Iraq. My friends were also kids in Iraq. Where was your protest? When these kids are charged they are charged as adults. They should enjoy the same rights that you do. I hate it when people complain about paying taxes and then support the over reaching government.....I welcome everyone willing to spend money in Salisbury. Stop making fun a crime!

You've seen graduates of UMES speak better? You mean, you've HEARD graduates of UMES speak better?

Also, considering UMES has one of the best Pharamacy schools and Physical Therapy schools in the state, that is not shocking to me.

Yes the college and the hospital are constantly expanding which means the city is getting less and less in property tax for all that property that they have bought. The people that have their home in the city are left to make up the difference. How much have we lost in property taxes? How much do we spend to police them?

Anonymous said...

You can clearly hear in one of the videos a girl in the back say that she wants to "throw something at them"... them being the cops. While it may not show a cop actually being hit, it does show the attitude of some of the students. There's another video where a girl is saying
f! the mf! cops... and continues to say let them pepper-spray us. Don't try to tell me they weren't being disruptive!!! This whole event is unfortunate... for ALL involved!!!

Show me the last murder, rape or beating caused by a SU student.

Now show me the last murder, rape or beating caused by a Salisbury Citizen(usually around the likes of booth st, maryland ave, isabella and church st).

Why should the police be worried about college students again? Because your precious salisbury is no longer a farm town/old fashioned small town? Salisbury has changed, if you want to live here, you should change too.

And no they are not paying "less and less" in property tax. For every building they build, the amount they pay in property taxes go up. Basic economics.

Anonymous said...

Maybe your basic economic but the hospital and the college do NOT pay property tax. It doesn't matter what they are doing anywhere else in Salisbury. If you are breaking the law you are breaking the law. Period. Get it now?

vixenvigilante said...

I was in the crowd there. Yes there were cups being thrown across people in the crowd. BUT not at the cops except by ONE girl who was arrested at the scene. This video is entirely taken out of context.

Anonymous said...

a drunk unruly crowd and you guys are defending them? cops shouldve shot anyone that assaulted them

Anonymous said...

I don't mind students having a good time, however as a city taxpayer that can't afford to move, am I supposed to like my property values continuing to decline and my tax rate continue to increase?

When the last few honest hard working tax payers can afford to move out of this city, is when this city is left with only college students and criminals.

You won't have to worry about the police then, worry more about the robbers, rapists, sex offenders and car jackers.

Anon @ 10:05 If you live in a college neigborhood, than your property value isn't dropping because of college kids, if anything the lack of on campus housing is driving up the value of your home as a potential rental opportunity. What is dropping the value of your home is the break ins, murders, gangs, drug activity, and other violent crimes in the area caused by the residents of various Salisbury neighborhoods such as the Reservation, Booth St, Church St, and the many others that the SPD would rather for go in order to harass college kids who are being a small nuisance.
