Chicago Cops Arrest Local Journalists: ‘Your First Amendment Rights Can Be Terminated’

Chicago police arrested WGN reporter Dan Ponce and WMAQ photographer Donte Williams Saturday, saying that they were “creating a scene” outside of Mount Sinai hospital.

The two were covering the fatal shooting of a six-year old girl and, though they were already across the street, the officer demanded they go another street over.

“F*** news affairs, I don’t care about news affairs. Forget news affairs,” he said.

When the journalists spoke to their rights, the officer replied, “Your first amendment rights can be terminated, if you’re creating a scene, or whatever. Your first amendment rights have limitations.”

After the journalists responded, “how have we created a scene? This is what we do for a living,” the officer replied, “Your presence is creating a scene.”

More ignorant bliss from the badge.

How in the world can this cop have been hired?
Obviously poorly educated, illiterate, immoral and severely lacking integrity.
Thats the police....

stop being so stupid. the govt wants a police state. you can clearly see what the cops are doing and getting away with. because of such and because of people who wont fight for their rights this is happening and will continue to. it has nothing to do with how smart or dumb cops are. thats the problem in the first place. people's minds are twisted. they go after one but not the other. you never think to go after the people who in the police force alow this too happen.

the point of this story is not the stupidity of the police; it is the fact that a journalist was arrested for trying to get the story. get it???

Millions of wanna-be Nazi's in this country are rationalizing reasons why the cop was right. Like the cop in Ocean city who claimed he was being "obstructed" by someone riding a moving Ferris Wheel (and was UPHELD by a judge, who obviously was his boyfriend or got his law degree from Kellogg's--- NOT the University, either), this cop showed the whole nation that the Constitution is whatever the cops say it is. Or isn't. And they know there is nothing anyone can do about it. Well, except for shooting, of course. It worked pretty good in 1775....and should still work pretty good today, too.
