Cracks found in Washington Monument
The Washington Monument was damaged in the 5.8 earthquake that impacted D.C. August 23. Damage to the monument was greater than initially thought. Follow-up inspections found more cracks in the topmost pyramidion section. The monument remains closed to the public as the Park Service works with engineering firms to determine repair efforts.
