The new proposed budget is slightly higher than the FY 2010-11 budget with the majority of the increase being accounted for from the construction and operating costs of the new Police Station on Division Street.
With the reorganization of the Public Works and Utilities Division there is a savings in payroll as at least two positions are being eliminated.
Under the current proposal employees will not be getting a pay increase for the third consecutive year. The State retirement plan will be taking an additional 2% from all the employees in the coming year. The current proposed Capital Improvement Plan allows for the purchase of much needed attachments for spreading salt and snow plowing, grant funded engineering for Wastewater Treatment Plan upgrades, and Board of Education funded improvements to two sewer pump stations.

The City will be voting on the 2011-2012 Budget on June 14 at the City Council meeting at 7:30 PM.
The City has awarded the contract for rebuilding the storage building that was damaged in the fire in January at the Public Works complex on Shady Lane. The contractor is Harkins Construction. The rebuilding is slated for June and July. The cost of the project will be covered by the proceeds from the insurance claim.

Unfortunately so are grass violations. During this time of year grass has to be cut at least every week even during this "heat wave".
Also property owners are now responsible for removing weeds from their sidewalks and driveways. The City no longer sprays on private property.
The appearance of various properties have noticeably improved, and unregistered/abandoned vehicles are disappearing, since my "junk for cash" column. Thanks!
Just a reminder that garbage containers should be put out for pickup curbside, not left in your yard. Our personnel are not allowed to go onto private property to pick up your trash.

The City spend thousands on the front on the building and the employees don't get a raise. There is something wrong with that picture.

The new manager worked for Mackes in recreation and parks. So he'll probably spend taxpayers dollars turning Fruit-land into one big park! Where is the golf course?
The old council gave an employee a position along with a huge pay increase without publicly taking applications. If she can get a pay increase why not the others who work just as hard if not harder? I guess this was the councils way of letting her down after she applied for the city manager's position and didn't get it. What a joke!
The employees of Fruitland have fantastic benefits and have not had to face furloughs or pay reductions like many other Gov. agencies. They should feel fortunate, not complain. I am sure that a sign on City Hall comes no where near the cost of providing raises to the employees. Be happy that you have a job.
Glad our new council was able to hold the line! As a Fruitland taxpayer, I would be upset if the employees got raises this year. They haven't had any cuts.
