It's funny that the mayor and almost every city counsel member used crime control when running for office and now they are cutting over $200,00 out of the police departments budget and are talking of furlowing officers. You can't have it both ways.

Sell some of the toys the fire department has.

I have a wondow facing the street. The recycling truck came by about three weeks ago. The older gentleman driving got out of the truck picked up and sorted the cans, bottles, etc. The other person in the truck stayed in his seat reading a comic book. Never once made an effort to help. The next week there was a different employee riding. He did get out and help pick up and sort. This week there was only the older man driving and getting out and sorting. He worked hard enough he did not need a helper. at least one who sits and reads a comic book! Money for nothing. I am sure he isnt the only slacker in the city government!

We are going to furlow the policemen. We just hired them. So now they can go to other police agencies for jobs. We get them trained then have them leave. What is wrong with this picture. The city needs to gets it head out of its A$$. Think if that is possible.

Correction 9:25- every city employee is going to get furloughs, not just the police. Insurance is also going up. At least the police have had a raise in the last 4 years... most other city employees have not.

Yeah Ireton and the council are planning on furlouging police officers, cutting needed equipment and resources that are needed with a crime control that is already out of control. All i can say is....dumb....prepare to defend yourselve people. Not only are the criminals and the crime rate kicking spd's a#%, now the mayor and council wanna get their jabs in their also. Take money else where....crime rate demands more police and more funding...NOT PAY CUTS AND FURLOUGHS

Anon 9:45. spd haven't recieved the raises they deserve. They get paid significantly less than state and county and don't get a nice take home car to drive to wal mart and the mall...oh yeah spd does twice the work as any deputy or trooper can tell u spd is twice as busy. If a trooper or deputy deniesx this then they are living in a fantasy world

Hi Joe,

If you check with the good Mayor's office, he will be at Prince Street School Friday for another PR event...I would guess that the BOE brass will be there as well to jaw it up...any chance this is open to the public? I'd love to show up and ask a few questions of my own....

Lore is busy finding grant money for the Bricks. Louise said she wants Linens of the Week building on Anne St and doesn't care where the money comes from. Looks like the police are going to pay for a place for drug dealers to hang out and sell their wares while the taxpayers of the city live in fear of being mugged by the drug dealers customer base.

They could cut funding for all NON ESSENTIAL items and employees. That would save tremendously. Less employees, less insurance to pay for. Cut that law firm off the tit of the taxpayers and hire an in house attorney as was PROMISED by Ireton while campaigning. That will save nearly half a million annually. Quit borrowing money for things you do not need.
