Millennials to Small Cities: Ready or Not, Here We Come

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Tyler and Alissa Hodge, two of the hundreds of young professionals who have moved here in recent years, noticed that despite the influx there was not a single city-style coffee shop downtown.

So the couple opened one in May, with sofas, baked goods and local micro-roaster beans, adding a play area as a nod to the family-friendly culture of this southern Indiana city and their own three children.

“The 18- to 35-year-olds expect something like that, but they just didn’t have it,” said Tyler Hodge, 32, who used crowdfunding to help finance the shop. The same tactic was used for a rock climbing gym opened in September by a group of young engineers who, like Hodge, spend their weekdays working at Cummins Inc., the diesel engine company that is the city’s largest employer.

“There’s not that much to do here for the young people,” said Juan Valencia, a 25-year-old Colombian immigrant who is one of the founders of the climbing gym. “We think this will help.”

Well, once the baby boomers die (after taking every last thing they can like the locusts they are), we can get back to caring and investing in future generations. I am not a millenial but sure cant wait to the greediest generation gone. Not one tear will be shed at their extinction.

I am more a Gen-Xer but this sure beats what the baby boobers do... sit and whine while demanding their government entitlements but not wanting to pay taxes for them...

It'll be interesting to see how their kids turn out.

Well now. Social security is MY MONEY that I paid in.. My investments are MY MONEY that I paid in. What do you have put away Snowflake? I'm lumping you and 8:12 together by the way.
The locusts are the ones living on EBT money and food stamps. Giving nothing and living for free.

Im not on anything. Your generation stole everything and continues to demand demand demand. How are these kids supposed to save when the best job they can get pays $10 when they are strappped with 50k in student loans because you generation refuses to invest in education? Go on, lecture away...
