DART Identifies Officer Slain, Those Injured in Downtown Ambush

One of five officers killed in a sniper abush during a peaceful protest in Dallas against police-involved shootings was "a great officer" and had recently married, according to his chief.

Brent Thompson, 43, was an officer with Dallas Area Rapid Transit and had joined the department in 2009, according to a statement released by DART. He's the first officer in the 27-year history of the department to be killed in the line of duty.

Thompson and four other officers died when two snipers opened fire on police during Thursday night's protest. Seven officers and at least two civilians were wounded, authorities said.

Sitting here thinking of what to say....I just feel so sad for the families and coworkers of the fallen officers. I feel like we are becoming a third world country.

Don't blame all just a couple of devout racist did this heinous act. Its just like blaming all cops or all blacks just does not fit.

God Bless this mans family. America has a Black eye world wide. We are at a critical point and if the president and his bigoted staff don't do something soon I know what side I am on. They say history has a tendency of repeating itself. Maybe it will. I would say pray for peace and keep you and your family safe. If it comes be prepared you will have no choice but to choose a side if it happens.
