It's school for goodness sakes. That's what happens in school. Kids take tests! Common core or not, I remember taking standardized tests in elementary school over 40 years ago. Sorry for the special needs child but if he can't pass the test, then he needs to be in an educational setting more suited for his particular disabilities.

When I told the school I didn't want my child tested. I was told I have no choice. The said it was in comar that it was the law. The only way I see my child not being tested is that they just sit there for the hours of testing and not do anything.

Please know that COMAR does indeed stipulate that students be assessed, however, the manner of that assessment is left to MSDE. With that being the case, simply download the MD Opt Out forms from http://unitedoptout.com/state-by-state-opt-out-2/maryland and complete them as relevant to your situation. From that point, simply make a copy (be sure it is signed and dated) and send the original to your child's (or children's) school Principal. The Principal will send this up the chain of command, and you will most likely be invited to a meeting to discuss this. This is an attempt to dissuade you - simply refuse and reiterate that your child is not to take place in any way with the PARCC testing and request WRITTEN correspondence from them instead. The powers that be will be very reticent to do this as anything in writing can be used against them and they are quite aware of this. Wait for the response, and when it comes, copy it to the "Contact Us" section at United Opt Out at this address:

and complete the form fields as requested. A representative will contact you directly within about 24 hours, if not sooner and provide direction at that point.

I invite you or your subordinates to show parents and interested parties of the public where there is a specific stipulation in COMAR that students are required to take PARCC testing or any test related to the common core. I am aware that you and many of your subordinates read this post, as do a great number of parents along with those interested in the best interests of quality education. I, for one, will be interested in your remarks, or those of your designee.
