An Interesting Comment Worthy Of A Post

Daniel Hill

I have to say that I'm utterly floored at the press release regarding the Mayor's budget amendment. Will I concede to say I have been left with egg on my face because of my post in regards to having lost faith in our local government to do what is right for the safety of the citizens of Salisbury, no I will not. Because not for one minute do I believe the Mayor had a change of heart. I feel his change of position came from the proverbial arm bar that some key people placed upon him with FACTUAL data to prove our importance. I can't thank our administration, the guys from the 4246, and all others who played a part in fighting for us until the bitter end. It was your dedication and refusal to accept the situation that finally made the council see what needed to be done. And collectively you all made the Mayor make some kind of move to reinstate our positions and extend our ability to serve and protect. With ten of us left these four new positions leave me with a 40% chance of nabbing a spot. Whether I make the cut or not I wanted to thank all of those who busted their butts to get us to this point, and increasing my odds of returning to the best job, correction career, I've ever had.
.

David Bowling - Can I concede and say it??!??

Daniel Hill - You absolutely can big guy. But I wont. Had the mayor and the council just woke up and made the change I would of cracked an egg on my face to show it. But I don't feel the egg should be there because it was because of those on this side that refused to accept it that any change happened. They were the ones who fougt to be heard, and today their hard work can be celebrated with a small victory. I still have little faith in the Mayor in regards to committing himself to public safety, a lot more faith in the council, and I cant possibly have anymore faith in the SFD as an organization.

Lisa Newnam - Shaw Fingers crossed!!!!

Joyce Powell - Hope everything works out for you!!

Anthony Tagliaferro - I've seen a lot of shit on your face but eggs never been one of them.

Chuck Foskey - I sure hope they hire you full time.

David Bowling - Best red head furman ever!

James Lloyd Jester - Jimmer deserves a TON of thanks for this as well

Daniel Hill - Absolutely Capt!!! He's definitely on that list. I just didn't tag individuals because a lot of this is my opinion and I didn't want anyone who's not on my friends list to see the post and assume this represents the consensus of the department.

LIKED - Joseph Patrick Andrews, Jill Jennings, Anthony Tagliaferro, Christopher Truitt, Aaron Colegrove, Cory Polidore, Heather Creager White,, Joyce Powell, Eric Borneman, Stacey Carpenter, Hunter Nelson, Tracey Wright, Lisa Newnam Shaw, Megan Czyz, Jennifer McMillan Borneman, Damon Maisel, Sandra Dean-Hibble, Jordan Braniff

For the taxes that the citizens of Salisbury pay, they should be demanding more fire coverage. Career staff means getting out the door faster. Currently the only twenty four hour staffed station is the one one Cypress St. The citizens in the other districts pay taxes, but why does only one district get full coverage. To me if I lived in the city, I would want the coverage that I am already paying for. With what the fire department returns annually from the budget and what could be earned from adjusting the EMS billing, along with the start of a city Fire Marshal, the funding would be there for full coverage at all three stations. With these funds there would be no need to raise taxes. Just something for the citizens to ponder. There is no need to put all your eggs in one basket. It is not fair to the citizens that all fire coverage is in one station.

Hmmmm... What paid fireman made this stupid comment.

You idiot raising fees, ie. EMS billing is raising taxes. There is no need for all these paid firemen if the fire chief would do his job to recruit and retain volunteer firefighters. Why do we need a city fire marshal when we are already paying for a State Fire Marshal. We are also paying for Wicomico County fire inspectors. It's time for the city and fire department to quit raping the tax payers.

A full compliment of paid firemen were on duty the day tax paying citizen and his dog die in fatal Salisbury fire just a few blocks from the Salisbury Fire Department. This ironically was the last day of the free firemen that we now have to pay for because of Jim Ireton and Fake Day and Company. These 12 free grant firemen we not needed in the first place and this fatal fire proves they are not needed because they don't save lives.

Yes Mr. Albero, Daniel Hill sounds like one of those mouthy anonymous firemen that makes threats to you. After reading this brazen comment it sounds just like something that we have read about you and some of the tax paying citizens.

I think Danny Hill sealed his fate on this one. I know Jim Ireton reads this blog every single day and this just might make him made. If he gets a job I would be surprised. I take that back Jim is a Pu$$y and has always caved in to his enemies and turned on his friends. Danny Hill will be the next paid fireman hired.

Tell the whole story. That gentle man unfortunately had passed before they even got there. Truck one was on scene in a minute, very good response time. They found him very quick also. The Neighbor admitted to smelling something burning for an hour before the fie department was alerted for the call.

The facts go like this. Salisbury stations staffed and are alerted for a structure fire. A citizen has observed smoke coming from a home in his neighborhood and has called 911. Units are enroute in less than 60 seconds and arrive on scene quickly from a distance of appx. 1/2 mile away. The first arriving unit begins a search and finds the occupant in less than 1 minute after arrival. Victims clearly deceased from the fire. Fire extinguished in 2 minutes.
Can someone or the author of the ridiculous statement linking the death of this citizen to paid firemen on duty please explain ?

So again you prove the point that paid firemen are not needed in this small community because they really don't make a difference. Thank you very much.

I think you are assuming someone is linking the death of this citizen to the paid firemen on duty.

Your statement is proof that paid firemen don't make the difference in saving lives. So now that you proved the point it is imperative that the fire chief and mayor should rigorously recruit and retain good volunteers instead of running them off. This clown you call a fire chief is the worst fire chief the city of Salisbury has ever had. Out of control spending on equipment, buildings and staffing and lives are still lost in fires.

Jim Ireton needs to be ashamed of himself for appointing that lazy fat man as the fire chief.

If you would keep this important post at the top it would receive over 100 comments.

Obviously you never met Jeff Simpson. My point was that neither paid or volunteer firefighters could have saved the man. Theres not a department anywhere around that recruits and bends over backwards to maintain volunteers. The problem is a nationwide problem that stems from less people with less time to donate. People working more than one job and the demands of life cause this problem.
