The Indefinite Detention Bill DOES Apply to American Citizens on U.S. Soil

“Don’t Be Fooled”: The Indefinite Detention Bill DOES Apply to American Citizens

Even at this 11th hour – when all of our liberties and freedom are about to go down the drain – many people still don’t understand that the indefinite detention bill passed by Congress allows indefinite detention of Americans on American soil.

The bill is confusing. As Wired noted on December 1st:

It’s confusing, because two different sections of the bill seem to contradict each other, but in the judgment of the University of Texas’ Robert Chesney — a nonpartisan authority on military detention — “U.S. citizens are included in the grant of detention authority.”

How did we get to the point where our "representatives" actually BELIEVE these kinds of laws are okay? Answer? Because our freedoms have been taken in small increments, a bit at a time, like the proverbial frog in hot water. And citizens are easily convinced (TOO easily) that whatever the latest intrusion, be it Nazi checkpoints on local highways, warrantless searches, imprisonment of journalists, pervasive surveillance in public, wiretaps, etc., is for our own good. Or to "protect" us against some boogeyman threat. And like the citizens in Germany, Russia, China, Indonesia, and yes, the USA, happily cheer as the leaders keep heating the water up. Sure, there is ALWAYS a good reason -- get drunk drivers off the road. Make the reporter say who told the secret. Catch the "criminal" with the goods. Whatever. Now, here in the USA, we are about to pass a law giving the government the authority to LABEL a CITIZEN a "terrorist" or a "threat". Detain him (without charges or trial) for as long as they want. Again, to "protect" us....The Constitution and the Bill of Rights is SUPPOSED to LIMIT the power of government and protect the freedoms of individuals. Quit cheering as they are trashed -- openly and with smug disdain -- right in front of your eyes.

Where's the idiot who keeps saying,'if you don't do anything wrong you have nothing to fear'?

Collecting his check from the gubnut for supporting such bs?

11:10, don't know about the gov't check, but a lot aren't speaking up because they are blind partisans who won't speak out against their party just like their opposite blind partisans didn't speak out under the previous administration. TPTB count on this response.

lmclain: another great post, thank you!
