What have Laura Mitchell and others told you their petition drive was about?

We'll discuss in comments if its true or not.

It doesn't matter what has been said. The Council and SBYNews is basically saying the public should have no say. I really do not understand what the problem is in sending this to public vote by referendum. Seems the right thing to do. Let the people decide.

She told me all the power is being taken away from the mayor.

Well power needs to get taken from someone, for sure...

Maybe someone who won't pay department heads to stand around and talk or as they say count lights...

anonymous 11:30, absolutely not true. In fact, the Mayor would have the exact same power he currently has. The only difference is, the Mayor can't HIDE anything from the Council.

I haven't been approached but allow me to say this-both the mayor and council should have equal access to the city attorney. Isn't that a form of transparency?
Mitchell needs to quit wasting time and move on to important things like the people! Someone else mentions street lights being out. We can add to that unsafe neighborhoods, drug dealers, and slumlords renting out houses that aren't fit for an animal to inhabit much less humans. The slumlords want extra police protection. That is a bandaid on the problem and only taxes the police's resources. The problem was created by the slumlords who everyone knows when you own a dump only the criminals are going to become your tenant. Time for the city to start doing some condemnation and bulldozing.

They told me nothing but I watched the Council meeting when it was done and was really upset about it. I am also upset about not letting Gillis improve Salisbury.

What the heck does Gillis have to do with this Post?

Why would any astute individual not want the council to have the same access as the mayor does to the city attorney?
I don't see Mitchell's reasoning.
I'm beginning to believe this woman is in LaLa Land and is just doing whatever she is told to do.

Gillis can still purchase the fire station if he wants anyway
1:11. What's stopping him from buying it and improving Salisbury?
Tell us!

They told you "nothing" 1:11? So what you are saying is that you signed something not even knowing what it was you were signing if in fact you did sign?
Maybe you ought to run for council? You would fit right in with some of them-voting in favor and wanting to push things through without a thought to dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's.

If I saw Jimmy's puppet Laura even attempting to step on my property I would just let the dogs out and hope she breaks a leg on the crappy city curbing.

Gillis has made plenty of money off of the city in the last twenty years. That's why he's whining about this one deal gone down, not in his favor. He's another that just wants everything his way or noway.

That property was advertised for sale as only the Firehouse (Jimmy's inept staff or intended deception?). Then the backroom deals came to light about the two parcels along the canal that other bidders were not privy to because they were not invited to the closed door meetings like the one's going on at the Chamber now.

The Chamber needs to be investigated.
