Are Americans And Their Children Really That Hungry?

Look around, watch carefully what the MSM is actually showing you. I have casually watched images of people claiming to be hungry, getting in lines at soup kitchens, food banks, collecting food stamps, taking advantage of special government housing, claiming disability, quite frankly it makes me sick.

There seems to be no pride in America any more. I've explained in the past how I grew up. I'm not trying to gain any sympathy, none whatsoever. I've simply tried to express how my Family was too proud to go on welfare. We were too proud to collect food stamps. We didn't live in subsidized housing.

As I travel to different Tent Cities and in a small way help provide food for some of these people, there are no obese people that I have seen so far looking for handouts. Instead, you'll see them in lines at food banks or at WalMart with their Independence Cards.

In the mean time, a lot has been said recently about how a select group of people are planning on going after a local Blogger because they feel he can not only work, he can provide an income, (in their opinion) to support himself and break away from subsidized housing and other financial advantages these people feel he shouldn't be receiving. In the end the courts will decide the fate of such an argument but in the mean time, what's to be said about obese people with their hands out while others are truly starving.

Yeah, the liberals will be all over me on this Post but quite frankly I do believe it's a fair question. It wasn't that many years ago we were living off a $30.00 a week grocery budget. Not one of us was FAT. Not one of us was unhealthy and not one of us was with our hands out demanding even more.

We paid for our food, we paid our own rent and we became better CITIZENS because of it. Can the liberals truly come back with a reply showing conservatives that giving such handouts to those who truly don't need it is an advantage to the American People?

It reminds me of a kid years ago who came to my Office trying to sell magazines. When he got the sense that I wasn't interested he started getting smart by saying, well, if you buy these magazines it will keep me off the streets and away from crime. Of course he was trying in a way threaten me and I simply told him to get out of my face, after I pointed out my open gun safe.

So do tell me what you think. Do you truly believe the majority of those people taking advantage of soup kitchens, food banks, disability, subsidized housing, etc. are really people who actually need it? While I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I have NEVER heard of a child who starved to death because the Family couldn't provide food. And I have to openly say that every time I see the MSM show food banks and so forth you always see people who look like they could use 45 days on Survivor, if not 6 months.

Well put Joe. My husband and I have often said the same thing when we see people looking for handouts on tv.

This is what I love about Salisbury News. You are never afraid to tell it like you see it and I couldn't agree more with this article.

As I have said many times, if they worked as hard at a real job as they do trying to scam the system everyone would be better off. I would be happy to help someone truly in need, but the truly needy don't ask for help.

Food Bank programs were designed to help the needy but they are abused by greedy people. So Joe I do believe you are spot on.

If the MSM is going to report on the starving children in the USA them why in the hell do they show us fat people. Come on wake up.

Anonymous said...

I say they should be of average weight before they get help. I really don't like fat people!

What amazed me is that during a recent food bank event shown on the local news station, most (not all) were in varying stages of obesity. The select few they spoke with obviously had not been affected by missing meals, as they were larger people, but they were talking about going hungry. If their children are hungry, maybe the food is going into mom & dad's mouths since they obviously aren't anywhere near starving based upon the ones seen in line.

BTW, I am a larger (not morbidly obese) person myself, but pay for my own food and have never asked anyone to pay my way.

Welfare programs mostly benefit the lazy, not the hungry. We are witnessing the collapse of a nation, right before our very eyes. Rome is burning........

They should have scales at these food giveaways. Remember thousands die every day from being fat and related illness. It costs all of us millions in health care and higher food prices (supply and demand). i can't remember the last time i heard of person starving to death in this country.

After being laid off 3 years ago, there was a time when I needed to apply for food stamps to keep things going around here. It was only my son and I, but the amount of money on the food stamp card was astronomical! As embarrassing it was to use it, I still bought burger, sale items, generics, etc., like I usually do. After a couple of months, there was still $500.00 on it! It's like share it with friends or buy lobster just to keep the thing under control! Once it was above $1,000.00. I had a full freezer and nowhere to store any more food! I had to ask around to see if my daughter wanted to use it and bought a bunch of seafood and steak just because it was expensive! I had no room for bulk!
Thank you Lord, I am not as much in need of the card anymore, as I have been blessed with some good jobs! That card is done, and I'm back on my own! But Jeeshe!

Actually, you're pretty chubby, but there's nothing wrong with that.

During a recent food bank newscast, one woman had the audacity to say that the reason she was there was because she had such a large car payment, and stated "got to make sure I can keep the car". So my tax dollars are feeding her fat ass, just so that she can keep her car. Lovely. Sell the car stupid and buy a cheaper car for cash with the proceeds, then I won't have to buy your food.

Who is the fat guy on the walmart electric cart? He wouldn't be so fat if he would try walking!

Thats the worthless JT, and his more worthless wife.

Joe you speak logic and common sense. That is what irritates people. they cannot argue with those points since it will show their total ignorance.
I was raised to help those who help themselves and still need help. They are not moochers and lazy. They just need help at times like all of us..
Good example of lazy moochers is my neighbors. They are on food stamps, public assistence and medical cards for her and their lazy kids. They are not married but have lived together for 20 plus years. He owns a painting business and buying a home. She gets all this free Tax Payer funded help and he has been getting it claiming no work. Yet, They have dirt bikes and 4 wheelers they have bought new. Quess what, Social Services Fraud Dept. has done nothing. Beat that.

I was in WalMart, where we all experience the EBT scams, and the woman in front of me was paying with her Independence Card while sitting on a motorized cart, eating fried popcorn chicken, talking about her disability. Yes, I believe that disability is called laziness. It is truly difficult to be a conservative social worker.

I am ashamed for each and every one of you.

I will say that when we experienced a job loss in our family, (and did not receive food stamps or even unemployment) we had to buy cheap foods that ultimately really didn't help our waistlines. Eating peanut butter sandwiches and ramen noodles among other things makes it hard to stay thin. Yeah I would have liked a nice salad and veggies every night with some meat once in a while but we couldn't do it. I am not saying that is why these people in the food bank line are fat. I'm just saying if all you have to eat are unhealthy things, you are probably not going to be skinny. And one more thing, thanks to God for pulling us through a very tough time in our lives! :-)

You really can't blame the chubby free loaders. The government is just playing to there weaknesses. They can't resist free food. the two parties exploiting the people's weakness is also exhibited in the lottery.

Well, I would 'quess' that if there was an investigation and no fraud was found, then no fraud was found.

Why do you people think you know everything there is to know about somebody else?

You may know a thing or two but no one knows everything about everything or everybody.

Thanks for pointing that out for everyone.

They always assume the worse and do not take into account body metabolism's or diet.

That isn't to say there are cases like they mention, I just don't like blanket charges.

I am fat therefore I get a blue tag to hang on my mirror and park in handicap spaces.

Anonymous said...

you all are ignorant, just because I am fat and can't work because I can't get around doesn't make me a bad person. I suffer from depression and find it hard to get out of bed before 9 am. The meds I take for heart disease makes it harder on me. Thus the depression gets worse and I eat more. If you don't feed me I'll die! In fact if one of you would be kind enough to come over to my house and clean it I would be grateful. While you are here maybe you could go to wally world and pick me up a few items and then make me lunch! This would make me happy then maybe I would cheer up; a bit and not be so depressed.

I appreciate the article, but it goes beyond "are they hungry". Recently there was an article about EBT cards from PA used in all 50 states, including Hawaii. Until the states limit the use of OUR TAX DOLLARS to OUR STATE ONLY, NOTHING will ever change.
In the overall scope of the mess we are in the food stamp program should be at the bottom of the list of concern. Rarely any bitching about all the waste that really counts like billions upon billions in bailouts making fat cats even richer
It's always been easier to attack the little guy.
JPMorgan has gotten millions and yet they are making a fortune off the food stamp and unemployment programs since they issue most of those. Then they turn around and outsource the people they hire to run those programs.
So rather than jump the food stamp person start with places like JPM.
Yes it may be fraud but its nothing compared to the top level fraud.
I am sick of the rich getting richer and the poor struggling harder and harder

Just because you can not see a persons disability does not mean they do not need the blue handicapped placard. I have asthma and fibromyalgia. When necessary I do use those spaces. Twice I have had rude notes left on my car.

anonymous 9:03, I have to agree with you. My Wife has 3 herniated disks in her back but to look at her you'd never know.

That being said, she always toughs it out and would never consider getting a sticker.

You might say some of us are "old school" but there's a lot to be said about personal pride, giving up and or giving in to the system.

IMHO, far too many people take advantage of the system and could use the excersize.

Let's take Jonathan Taylor as an example. I'm not at all saying he isn't handicapped, he is. I'd be a liar if I didn't openly admit that I personally wonder just how handicapped he'd be if he lost a couple hundred pounds, (respectfully). I'd add, the man has proven he can sit behind a computer at least 12 hours a day, he can work.

Unfortunately its people like him that take advantage of the system to the fullest and IF someone like him wants to attack the actual taxpayers who pay his way and his wife's, he should be challenged.

You either respect and appreciate what you have or have been given or you don't. Jonathan Taylor absolutely does not.

Now he is just one small example of those I feel are taking advantage of the system. I aplaud the group that is investigating his background and income and feel al Americans should not give up challenging those they feel are taking advantage.

Don't WALK around a party or event and the next day when you know cameras will be around sit in a wheel chair or ride a scooter. This guy is playing people for all its worth.

Anonymous said...

Joe, from what I've seen I'd say a majority of em are playing the system for all it's worth!

Joseph Albero said...

I don't know about all that. I do know that Taylor IS.

6:52 I have had open heart surgery and also on heart meds out of my butt. I found they do not cause or assist in depression unless you let it. Get up and exercise what you can and slowly increase your exercise time. It will do you wonders and eliminate your depression if you have the will power. Everybody can exercise in some way if they want to or they can lay around with the "poor old me " attitude.
Don't blame things on self pity and expect the Tax Payer to finance your life.

Entitlements such as welfare, food stamps, etc., do nothing for this country but bring it down. Sure, there are people who need a hand up. But not a hand out. Big difference. They currently do nothing more than reward those who choose not to work and collect money from the government. This "reward" promotes multi-generational recipients of public assistance and subsequently generations of people with no will to work, no training, no desire to have anything better for themselves or their offspring. No...the liberal agenda has destroyed this nation. It reminds me of something my mother said to me years and years ago. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions". It has nevern been more true than it is right now.

Americans would revolt if they knew just how bad off we are. These programs keep america safe from its own people.

I'm not buying the argument that in order to eat cheaply one has the only option of eating foods that are bad on the waistline.

It's all about serving sizes. No one has to eat themselves to gluttony in order to survive or even be healthy.

1 egg, 1 slice of toast and 2 pieces of bacon is enough for any person.

And lunch doesn't have to be a sandwich piled with an inch of lunchmeat.

Same with dinner. Alot of times I will cook only one steak and myself and my husband will share it.

Our eating habits have nothing to do with not being able to afford more but is all about not gaining weight. And we are not running around staving and I can say I usually only feel hungry at meal time.
I'm 47 yrs old, 5'4" and weigh 120 lbs. I've been this weight since I was 17 years old.

I wonder if Taylor has ever applied for employment?

I know Walmart has been horored for hiring applicants with disabilities. He could start by applying there.

I am always amazed at how people continually try to tell people how they should live, work and act.

Isn't that socialism?

10:57 thanks for the advice now when you want to come over and clean my house? The toilet needs it really bad. I'm to fat to bend over it! would be nice if you could make me some lunch before hand though!

Yuck! Anyone whose toliet needs clearning "really bad" must be really gross! My kitchen floor may not be washed and I may have a pile of laundry but my toliets are NEVER dirty! I doubt very seriously if 10:57 wants to get anywhere near your house 7:06. I know I wouldn't!

I agree with this post, for the most part. However...I have a problem with 12:02...

My husband and I both work very hard to provide for our family of six. We get NO assistance whatsoever. Obviously (like everyone else) we have to budget our grocery money. I have to say, I am very good at making something out of nothing (I've even fed our family of 6 for $40 for a whole week!) With that being said...I have to admit that the vast majority of the food we buy to sustain us...is VERY unhealthy. That's what makes it so cheap, unfortunately. So...12:02...when you say have a sandwhich and use only a little bit of lunchmeat on it...that's very true. However, I can get a pack of bologna for 99 cents! (One of the most fattening meats you can buy!) You say that your family only eats a "little" bit of steak when you make dinner...STEAK?! I haven't had the luxury of a steak in quite some time!! And the person who put that peanut butter and ramen noodles are fattening but cheap was dead on! We LIVE off that stuff! (Ramen noodles are about, what, 12 cents a pack? That's a meal for one person for 12 cents!!) Yes...I TOTALLY agree that a lot of people take advantage of our tax money. But when someone says that they must buy the cheap, fattening foods in order to make ends meet, which,in turn probably does contribute some to of their weight issues...then don't knock that idea unless you've lived it. Speaking from my viewpoint...anyone who can afford to have steak...even a small steak...has no idea what its like to truly have nothing.

9:11, you readily admit your house is a pigsty and yet you get on me. Mine's bad beacuse of my handicap (being obese) what's your excuse?
