School Buses

Good morning Joe.

What is it with these school buses lately? This morning I was driving down Pemberton Dr. coming up the Crooked Oak Lane intersection. I saw a school bus coming to the STOP SIGN at Pemberton Dr. The bus only slowed down and just pulled right out onto Pemberton Drive right in front of me. I was driving a big diesel truck and had to slam on the brakes.

It was like the driver decided that he/she was not going to get stuck behind me. Instead he/she almost caused an accident. I don't know if the driver was male or female but it was bus number 58. Now I can understand why there are so many school bus accidents in this county. They need to go back to driving school and learn that just because they are big and yellow that they still need to abide by the traffic laws, and laws of common sense.

Don't they realize that those children's lives are in the palm of their hands?

The buses on Pemberton always take chances. Its been going on for years, and I doubt things will change until there is an accident.

Yep, every morning on my way to work I think the same thing, they never stop at the stop signs, just sure you will see them coming and stop for them I guess. I pass at least 5 different buses every morning and I have seen them all roll through the stop signs at one time or another.

They know if anything happens it going to be your fault. They think they are gods and that has a lot to do with Holloway as he is an arrogant a$$ to begin with. Remember when you cussed Mr. Holloway? probably not as you cussed so many before.

I sent Joe something last week about the Wicomico county school bus drivers. They are aggressive and take chances. They take the right of way simply because they can. They seem to have the mentality as this person states that they are big and yellow and traffic will just have to stop and allow them to do whatever maneuver they are doing. Its all true. I'm glad someone else sees the same thing and wrote Joe about it. Frederickson needs to take a better look at this problem too...

Someone should report this incident to the Board of Education.

Bus drivers on Nanticoke rd drive poorly, too. They always pull out on you.

I called the safety director several years ago about this, with bus numbers, dates, and times. I was rudely dismissed, I won't waste my time again. I guess they feel that the drivers are contract drivers, and therefore do not concern the county. Worcester is worse, especially coming out of Quick Shop in Berlin in the morning.

It is very upsetting to read this, as my first-grader rides bus 58. I am thankful the author of this post was paying attention to his or her surroundings and was therefore able to avoid a collision, but I'm a bit disappointed that this was posted anonymously. I have spoken to the owner of the bus to make him aware of this alleged incident, and was told that it would be addressed.

I think it is unfair to characterize all school bus drivers as lacking common sense and disregarding traffic laws. Most do a great job of transporting thousands of students in our county each day.

You are obviously an idiot to know this is going on and allow your first grader to continue to ride this bus? WTF are you thinking? Social Services should take your child away from you immediately!

12:55-some people don't have a choice--their kids have to ride the bus. Working parents sometimes cannot take their children to school and pick them up every day. Since you seem to think that she is such a bad mother, why don't you offer to drive her kid to school everyday and be there at 3:00 to take them home? Besides, I don't think she was aware of this problem until it was posted, or I think she would have contacted someone sooner.

To the poster 12:15. My name is Steve and own Auto Medic Towing in Fruitland. I was on my way to work when this occured. If the owner of the bus would like to contact me he can.

i've never met a perfect driver, everyone makes a mistake every once in a while, most of us are just lucky our mistakes don't end in accidents... but for some reason every time we see someone else make a mistake we freak out

Don't worry. Before too long everyone will have to drive slow to avoid all the potholes. Just wait and see.

Joe... until all posters leave their real name they are all jokers... you really need to make them post a name or this place will become a joke.

Don't expect the BOE to do anything about this - they don't listen to us at all and just go about doing anything they want to do - it is only a matter of time until a serious bus accident occurs and then, and only then will some sort of reform occur - Who is in charge of the transportation department anyway?

12:50 - The Supervisor's name is Dave Reeve, and he was previously in charge of the transportation show in Carroll County. From what I hear, he did a pretty good job there and has a solid reputation as a no nonsense kind of guy. From what I am hearing from the BOE, he routinely pisses off Dr. Fredricksen as well as many parents because he follows state and federal laws and lives within his budget. I don't know the guy personally, and have never met him, but to know that he really doesn't give a rats ass about the super is good enough in my book. Apparently he also pisses off the bus drivers in the county too by holding them accountable to the rules....
