RIVERDOGS DROP SHOREBIRDS 5-3 TO TAKE SERIES LEAD

‘Birds Fall to 16-14 on the Season

Salisbury, Md.
– The Delmarva Shorebirds rallied in the ninth inning but fell short, 5-3, against the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday afternoon at Perdue Stadium.

The Charleston RiverDogs were first to act as they tallied a run in each of the first two innings off Tony Butler. Luke Murton scored Jimmy Paredes in the top of the first on a grounder to third, while DeAngelo Mack plated Kyle Higashioka on a double in the second inning.

In the sixth inning, the RiverDogs extended the lead. Paredes lead off with a single and stole second. He scored on a Justin Milo RBI knock. Later in the frame, Milo scored on a double by Higashioka to deep center field.

The Shorebirds plated their first run in the bottom of the sixth. Ty Kelly connected on a single up the middle to score Garabez Rosa to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The RiverDogs tacked on a run in the eighth inning to take a 5-1 lead going into the ninth. The Shorebirds plated two runs in the ninth before Ben Watkins put the clamps on and ended the game. T.J. Baxter hit an RBI groundout to second while Rosa hit a soft flare into center field.

Shaeffer Hall earned the win for Charleston in 6.2 innings. He allowed just six hits and one run. Tony Butler was saddled with the loss. He allowed nine hits and four runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

The Delmarva Shorebirds square off with the Charleston RiverDogs in the finale on Monday morning at 10:35 a.m.
