SU MENS’ LAX REMAINS STRONG CONTENDER FOR NCAA TOURNAMENT

Despite the disappointing showing and loss against Stevenson on Saturday, the Sea Gulls still have a very good position going into the final part of the regular season. If they do well against Washington College on May 8, they will be a bracket leader in the NCAA playoffs.

Stevenson is now tops in the coaches' poll – the win over SU resulted in a switch in the 1 and 3 slots between the two teams, with Gettysburg remaining number two and Courtland in fourth place. SU has beaten each of those teams on the road.

Here is the current tournament projection by the ‘"LaxPower" analyst:

North

#1 Cortland (SUNYAC AQ) vs. winner: #8 Union (Pool C) vs. #9 Keene St. (Little East AQ)

#4 Geneseo (Pool C) vs. winner: #5 Nazareth (E8 AQ) vs. #12 Colorado College (Pool B)

#2 Connecticut College (NESCAC AQ) vs. winner: #7 RPI (Liberty AQ) vs. #10 Endicott (CCC AQ)

#3 Tufts (Pool C) vs. winner of #6 Montclair St. (Skyline AQ) vs. #11 Mount Ida (NAC AQ)

South

#1 Salisbury (Pool C) vs. winner: #8 Goucher (Landmark AQ) vs. #9 Eastern (MAC AQ)

#4 Dickinson (Pool C) vs. #5 Roanoke (ODAC AQ)

#2 Stevenson (CAC AQ) vs. winner: #7 Denison (Pool B) vs. #10 Ohio Wesleyan (Pool B)

#3 Gettysburg (Centennial AQ) vs. winner: #6 Cabrini (CSAC AQ) vs. #11 Springfield (Pilgrim AQ)

A quick word on the seeding of the top 3 in the South: Under the Criteria, they are very even. I used the Salisbury win over Gettysburg to separate the two of them, and then the Secondary Criteria (out-of-region contests) were used with respect to Salisbury/Stevenson, which brought into consideration Salisbury’s out-of-region win over Cortland and Stevenson’s over RIT, with the greater weight going to Salisbury.

The Gulls could face a dark horse – Roanoke – here, and recall the nail biter win over the Maroons here a couple years ago. Roanoke has lost only twice, including a trouncing (9-18) by Stevenson a month ago.

I hope this is the way it breaks down as -if the seeds hold -that puts Gburg vs Villa Julie (aka Stevenson) playing midweek in the Qtr finals, with short prep time for the Semi's in Salisbury the following Sunday! Go Gulls!

Salisbury University got spanked by Stevenson and will lose in the playoffs.
