SALISBURY – Plans to build a new public safety complex are well underway, according to a report from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office this week.
On Tuesday, Capt. Todd Richardson with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office provided the Wicomico County Council with an update on plans to build a new public safety complex on a nine-acre property at the corner of Westwood Drive and Naylor Mill Road in Salisbury.
In late 2017, project consultants with Crosby & Associates began a feasibility study for a new public safety complex that would house both the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s emergency services department.

This is a great idea. Then the old public safety property can be repurposed into a new Salisbury Fire Department Northern Station. A win-win for all involved including those who have inadequate fire protection in the Gumboro Road corridor.
The jail is looking like it's going to need some expansion, too.
Would not be a good site for fire department as it floods all the time during heavy raining. It was built on a downward slope. Mold in the building also. And I don't think it could house the heavy equipment either. And how do you consider this a Gumboro Rd corridor??
Not adequate for a fire station have to spend millions to build one.
A northern station will reduce the NFPA 1710 Response Time Standard. It calls for initial apparatus on street in 80 seconds and the first arriving piece of fire equipment be on the scene in 4 minutes. With poor response time by Delmar Fire, on street average greater than 3 minutes, numerous re-dispatches, and unable to meet the goal of 4 minutes to the Rt. 13 & Gumboro Road intersection, it makes sense for a northern Salisbury fire station to reduce these numbers. Aldi and the state police are considered to be in Salisbury city limits. Thus Salisbury Fire gets the intersection.
It is rumored that Delmar wants to build a station on the Maryland side. They should be more interested in trying to provide service with regard to NFPA 1710 than holding onto their Maryland 508 money. The citizens come first- not the whims of volunteer fire companies.
