NC police raid poppy farm the size of a football field

Undercover police raided a poppy farm the size of a football field and seized enough plants to make $500 million worth of heroin.

Catawba County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina raided the farm in Claremont on Tuesday where they discovered the one-acre plot planted with poppies.

One man has been arrested in connection with the haul - even though they were searching the area in connection with a completely separate crime.

The last time I checked it is not illegal to have poppy plants. If you attempt to harvest the sap is when it turns illegal.

And I'm sure the person who owned the plants only intended to harvest them to give out to recognize veterans who were killed in action.

It's probably no longer true but years ago, like 50, you could buy poppy seeds at George Washington estate Mt Vernon in Virginia.
