ISIS LURED US TO STRIKE HOME WHERE THEY’D LOCKED CIVILIANS IN BASEMENT, MILITARY SAYS

In March, the US military was accused of striking a home in Mosul that killed more than 100  civilians based, at the time, on what was believed to be some combination of faulty intelligence or faulty execution.

What you believed depended on the outlet. Now, over two months later, an explanation has been offered by the military that is pretty horrifying to contemplate.

In the house that was struck, ISIS had locked civilians in the basement, wired the home with explosives, and set two snipers on the roof to lure an airstrike, a deliberate attempt to discredit the military using maximum collateral.

That intel emerges from an analysis of the home’s building materials as well as the capabilities of the fighters involved.
