Maryland high schools ranked best in the nation

BALTIMORE —Maryland has the best high schools in the nation, according to the most recent national rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

This is the third year in a row Maryland has earned this distinction that reflects which schools are most successfully preparing students for college based on students participating in and achieving passing scores on Advanced Placement tests. The rankings also include appropriate statewide tests and graduation rates in its calculations.

Florida placed second in the rankings with California, Connecticut and Massachusetts rounding out the top five states, according to the rankings.

I wonder if the PRIVATE schools were included in these statistics?? If so, this would account for the high grade.

If you don't mind all the fights and gang rapes. Other than that everything's fine.

1:03. Private schools are no better than public schools. You're delusional if you think only bad kids and bad things happen in public schools. All schools are full of riff raff, even the PRIVATE ones.

Sorry 1:49. I had kids in both private and public that graduated in the last five years. While private schools aren't perfect they are leaps and bounds ahead of public schools academically and behavior wise.

1:49 riff raff LOL

The excellent public high schools in montgomery county is a major reason for this ranking

Another armchair quarterback! You think that all schools are perfect. In today's society? Get a grip

Private school kids get kicked out and public schools have to take sloppy seconds. Easy to embellish the stats.

2:12. Behavior starts and ends at home not at school. I don't care how rich or poor you are.

They didn't get this ranking based on Wicomico - that's for sure!

2:12. These kids in schools both public and private get out of it what they put into it.

Poll taken by the Maryland BOE! LOL!

1:49 - obviously you don't know too many people from private school. I am fortunate enough and blessed that my parents had the wisdom to send me to a private school. Of course students aren't perfect in private school but you get so many more outstanding students from a private school then you do coming out of public school system. You are also going to find 95% more students who respect their elders and teachers then the majority of punks in public school. Success and achievement is expected out of private schooling while survival is expected out of the James Bennetts of the world. It pretty much is night and day. Sorry to burst your little bubble but hey, you'll find something new to bitch about tomorrow! Cheers!

6:28 I'm not buying it and neither are most people. I guess that's why the PRIVATE schools weren't on the list. Success is only EXPECTED because of the ridiculous amount of money spent for private school. No night and day for me, I live in the real world not what my rich parents tell me is TRUE.

6:18. I don't think 1:49 was bitching. Just stating the facts. By the way, if you're private schools are so great where are they on the LIST??

The list is ONLY based on PUBLIC schools.

If Md has the best public schools then God help the USA

They didn't the best are on the eastern shore. Historically, Somerset county has alway been at the bottom of the school rankings by county.

I had three kids both in private and public school. There was a big difference. First of all because this private school had discipline. They had you sign a paper that you agreed to corporal punishment if needed. If you did not sign the agreement and then your child needed discipline. They would call the parent to come to the school and discipline their own child. The kids that came from public school to this school were usually tested and it came out that they were usually about two grades behind our school. Also we had students that became Doctors and many other high paying professions. The biggest difference was the environment. The teachers really cared about the children. And the kids really respected their teachers. Basically the kids wanted to learn and the environment was conducive to learning. Any thugs or kids that just would not conform to school policies were given a chance to conform. But if they just continued in their thug ways they were expelled from school for good. That way they weren't a hindrance to the other students. The difference was night and day. Mainly because they teachers wanted to teach and make a difference in the child's life and the kids wanted to learn and loved the teachers.

This is what I have to say about Baltimore's schools.

If the Baltimore schools rank the best in the nation - then why in Sam he_ _
is the crime rate gone through the roof. Rape's, murders, riots, all characterize Baltimore. It was ranked NO. 2 in the nation in crime statistics, only behind Chicago.

IMHO - after performing a linear extrapolation - I would say that this article in none other than FAKE NEWS!

I doubt the veracity of this report-it must count private schools too.

1:49 I transferred my child a few years ago from public to private and guess what? Area private schools are easily a year ahead of public ,grade for grade. There are still bullies and whatnot, but it is dealt with quickly. Lastly, most of these kids in private schools have families who place a value on education.

Stats don't lie. 99% of the students who graduate at my child's private school go on to college.Think on that for a minute.
Also, don't assume all private school kids have rich parents. It's amazing what a little personal sacrifice and student aid can accomplish.

Do all schools teach the kids to take the test? I see this quite often. Our school systems are a joke.
