Ocean City’s New Street Performer Law Nears Passage

OCEAN CITY – A draft ordinance regulating Boardwalk performers heads to first reading on Monday evening and if all goes to plan the law will go into effect by the end of July.

Ocean City has been struggling with the proliferation of street performers on the Boardwalk for several years. Issues have grown as the number of performers increase every year and the acts diversify from spray paint fumes to costumed characters to a pole dancer. However, court rulings in recent years protecting street performers’ First Amendment rights have prevented the town from strictly regulating the acts on the Boardwalk.

In the beginning of the year, the Boardwalk Task Force was created to specifically look into these concerns, and after two public hearings, the Task Force submitted a formal recommendation to the Mayor and City Council about a month ago.

When I see that moron painted in gold and acting like a mental case it just creeps me out. No talent what so ever and people watch him like he has talent.

The other day there was some weirdo just doing flips as if people wanted to pay to see that.

Those guys painting with spray cans have got to be high. I can't stand smelling those fumes or getting that spray paint on me. WTF!

How can these so called performers just claim and spot on the boardwalk without paying rent or licensing fees. This is ridiculous that our elected officials ignore it and claim it is a first amendment right. Dennis Dare you are an idiot to say that something will eventually take care of itself instead of acting on it. I don't know what's worse, having Dennis Dare as the Town Manager or as an elected official? He is a pure bread idiot! I remember when an OC Paramedic made him upset...LMAO. Remember that Dennis??

Thanks for all of your unsubstantiated opinions

The guy painted in Gold's name is Tony Button and he is very talented. He plays guitar, harmonica, sings, and is one of the best I've ever heard talking with a squeaker.

The Guys spray painting are also talented. You try spraying outside and coming up with something not full of runs that looks presentable.
