Town Hall & More!
The Common Core standards being implemented across our state are causing quite a stir among parents and teachers.
A Town Hall on Common Core was held at FOX45 on Thursday, January 29. Joining me on their panel were;
Robert Small - local Dad arrested for interrupting MD State Dept of Education forum on Common Core;
Will Estrada - Home School Legal Defense Association; &
Cheryl Bost - VP, Maryland State Education Association
The audience was comprised of parents, teachers, and students. Overall, there was little support for this new program.

There are a number of bills being introduced this year in Annapolis from a repeal of Common Core to a delay in full implementation. I have opposed common core for a number of reasons. Primarily, the collection of student data is very troubling. Additionally, I oppose the federal government take-over of our local schools. Washington D.C. is pushing Common Core on the states. This "new" way to teach our children is untested, and there is no estimate of how much it will cost to fully implement the program. Let's not experiment with our children's education on a program that has not been analyzed for effectiveness or cost.

Please get involved. Common Core is NOT good for our children and NOT good for the "long term" of our future.
Anything implemented by Obama is not good. 85% of teachers say this program sucks, yet they still vote for democrats.
That is why I can't stand the Wicomico County Board of Education. John Fredericksen and Ron Willey have fully accepted this indoctrination.
Jeb Bush will tap this anti common core movement down.
Plus, they might want to read the Constitution. Education is the states' job, NOT the Fed's.
Has anyone tried to help a child with their homework under this common core? My stepson is doing art projects for his math class! What does making a clay bowl or coffee cup have to do with 5th grade math! He comes home so frustrated and stating over and over that he wants to learn in school and feels he is not learning anything! So common core is hurting him emotionally as well.

As always, Paladin is speaking the truth. Concerns expressed by parents to educators will be met with platitudes, sympathy and not much else. Follow the procedure for opting out. You'll be addressing the problem yourself without waiting for the system to do what it's never going to do.
Funny that VP of MSEA was there. They DID NOT stand up for teachers and students when this Common Core Crap was passed and implemented. Oh yeah, we now have a Republican governor so they will oppose everything now. Didn't hear a peep of complaints when OweMalley was in charge but oh yeah he is a democrat. keep feeding MSEA your money teachers!!!!!!
It is still under the state, but the schools receive more money and additional funding by meeting standards as well as full implementation across all counties...that is how they stay within tbe confines of the Constitution.
This is why the minimum age to drop out without consequences for parent and child has risen to 16, will be 17, and in a year or two, will be 18....its called compulsory attendance. Very interesting concept-worth reading about especially if you have children in school.
Two more years for kids to ruin education for those who are there to learn and who will control themselves. Anyone who wants to start a charter school in Wicomico County should do very well.
Common Core is to dumb down children so they march to elitist liberal democrat orders.Everyone really needs to read Saul Alinsky's book.
We have a lot of very well educated people who were not taught using common core.
SCHOOL VOUCHERS WOULD STOP THE MADNESS
