One in Three Americans Believe Police 'routinely Lie'

While most Americans approve of the work being done by their local police, nearly a third feel that some officers "routinely lie to serve their own interests," a survey released on Thursday by Reuters and the IPSOS polling organization showed.

The number rises to 45 percent among African-Americans.

The findings come as scrutiny on police has been heightened in recent months by the killing of unarmed blacks by white officers, which has raised questions about police treatment of racial minorities.

While distrust is significant, nearly three-quarters of respondents approve the job done by their local police, the survey said. The survey showed that 56 percent of African-American respondents approved of their local police.

MarQuis McClee, a small-business owner from Bloomington, Indiana, who took part in the poll, said that he generally trusts police and has officers among his relatives, but as an African-American, he can also be wary around law enforcement.

Many years ago an officer told the judge in my DUI case that I was apprehended going the wrong way on an exit ramp onto I-95-- I had been arrested in an apartment parking lot.. I never left the lot.
Liar liar.

I'm sure the truth lies down the middle 11:27. Too much of a discrepancy there.

11:27 You were probably too drunk to remember what you did in the first place.

I do believe there are "bad apples" in EVERY profession. Unfortunately, because of Obama, Holder and the liberal news lap dogs, our law enforcement have been made to look really bad.

google good stories about policemen and you will see another side of this saga.

I appreciate what the police do for us. and NO I'm not blind to the bad element.

Good stories about the police dont make headlines, nor fire up the public.

I backed into a parked car, then went to move my car when an off-duty cop jumped out in front of me waving his badge thinking I was trying to flee.
I only 'drove' about 100 feet in that lot and never left it.
My car was still there when I went to get it.
I was legally drunk, but I still remember the incident today. I wasn't that drunk. He flat-out lied to the judge.

11:27.

If so, then 2 of 3 are clueless.

I'm going to go with 100% lie. Because up til this point, 35 years young, I've yet to come across one single human being that won't when convenient.

No! The cops make themselves look bad. Even the cops who do no wrong and don't turn in the cops that do. Just as guilty.

They are legally allowed to lie and deceive.

They lie on their reports to cta. They conspire among themselves to come up with a story that will cta.

I don't know any percentage but when push comes to shove I believe they all will do it to cta.

There have been convictions of cops that have done this so it is true they do it. How many do it? My guess would be most, if not all.

There are some. But most go unnoticed.

Until the 'good' cops weed out the 'bad' cops, the public will always be riled up by the bad ones and lump them all in the same bag.

The US Supreme court said in a decession, that the Police can lie to a suspect to get information during questioning. The cops just expanded on this and do it as a matter of course.

I can't even get a victim to tell me the truth on calls, let alone witnesses and suspects.

everyone lies, to some degree. jsut you know when the kops lie it's gonna cost you big time! Which is wrong.

Mike Lewis will save the day.

Police lie on a daily basis. For that matter they are trained to lie. Police are trained so that they believe there job can not be done effectively without lying to so called perps. So hence lying to the public or on paperwork is nothing more then doing there job to them.and police wonder why the public has no trust in them.

Cops and civilans need to be held to the same standard. Honesty both ways. Driving speed limits. Not using phones while driving. No self defense if off duty.

Because the slightest bit of truth gets turned into the story you want a judge to hear officer!

As a cop I say 99% of suspects lie lol. Everyone has lied at least once in a life time. Hell my three year old dropped a bowl of ceral. When asked what happened she said I don't know. lol It is human to lie to avoid conflict it is instilled at a young age. This is just another pot shot at cops. I got thick skin I dont care what a poll says. I serve and protect daily and will keep on keeping on. I love the public and the job I do.
