Two Arrested for Multiple Burglaries in Dagsboro area

Dagsboro, DE – Detectives have arrested two Dagsboro men in connection with multiple burglaries that have been committed in the last month.

Since the beginning of October, the Troop 4 Property Crimes Unit has investigated approximately 20 burglaries in the Dagsboro and Selbyville area involving the theft of large amounts of power tools from garages, sheds and utility trailers. In addition to these burglaries the Property Crimes Unit has also handled multiple reports of thefts from yards and vehicles all occurring in neighborhoods located off Irons Lane in Dagsboro. Jacob G. Svenson, 33, (Photo attached - Black coat) and Edward J. Nearey Jr., 37, (Photo attached - Green coat) were developed as primary suspects through the thorough investigation conducted by detectives and on Thursday November 13, 2014 a search warrant was conducted at their residence located in the 34000 block of Cherry Log Lane which just happens to be off Irons Lane where the numerous thefts and burglaries have been occurring.


Upon conducting the search warrant, over $15,000.00 worth of stolen property was recovered including a commercial wood splitter valued at $2,200.00 that was stolen from a residence on Piney Neck Road. Other items such as air compressors and power tools that were stolen from various other locations in the Dagsboro and Selbyville area were recovered and brought back to Troop 4 were they will eventually be returned to the victims.

Jacob Svenson and Edward Nearey were transported back to Troop 4 where they were both charged with five counts of Burglary 3rd, two counts of Possession of Burglary Tools, five counts of Theft, Conspiracy 2nd, Selling Stolen Property, and two counts of Criminal Mischief. They were both committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $49,001.00 secured and $37,001.00 secured respectively.

The investigation into the burglaries is continuing and more charges ould be forthcoming.
