State Offering Help To Those Who Act As Own Attorney

Maryland's Judiciary is trying to make it easier for people to represent themselves in court.

The Access to Justice Department of the Maryland Judiciary is aimed at those who file suits in family courts, where at least one party represents themselves in around 70-percent of cases.

It is also aimed at those who represent themselves in lawsuits filed in district courts, which are addressed in many other states in small claims court.

Pam Ortiz, who heads the Department says the state will expand its self help centers in district courts.
