4 Pennsylvania Cops suspended indefinitely for an alleged joy ride gone awry

Tossed firework at on-duty officer's cruiser as a joke, sparking a chase

Four officers of the Mount Carmel Township Police Department have been suspended indefinitely for an alleged joy ride gone awry.

Patrolmen Patrick McAndrew, Michael Pitcavage and David Stamets were suspended Friday. Patrolman Matthew Filarski began medical leave last week. His suspension is expected to begin once the leave expires.

The suspensions were confirmed Thursday by township supervisor Chairman Charles Gasperetti, police Chief Brian Hollenbush and township solicitor Vincent Rovito.

The four officers were off-duty Sept. 1, Labor Day, when they were allegedly chased by Kulpmont Patrolman David Tomtishen. It began in the borough, continued through Marion Heights and led into the surrounding coal lands in Mount Carmel Township. A firework was allegedly tossed at the on-duty officer’s cruiser as a joke, sparking the chase.

So all of the suspect officers that were identified have been suspended pending the completion of the investigation. So there is no cover up, and an independent agency it's doing the investigation. Other than the fact the this website likes to make mountains out of mole hills every time somebody in law enforcement makes a mistake I don't see what the big deal is. A couple of small town immature cops were horsing around, did something stupid, and got chased by another cop. Must have been a slow news day.

The others are right 6:51. You are either part of the solution or you're part of the problem. You are the latter.

LOL!....I see respect for the police and their Wild West, "we can doing anything we want" methods of conduct, is reaching all time highs.
Ya did it to yourself, boys. This website is NOT your problem. You are your own problem.
If "we, the people" did this, there would be a 20 car cop caravan chasing us, stop sticks, helicopter coverage, gunfire , and finally, a good chance that SOMEONE was gettig shot or beaten into a coma.
So they got "suspended". CYA all the way.Anyone want to bet that they won't be back on the job in a few weeks?
Like I've said before, PRISON for you and me. Cake and donuts at the station for them.
Yes, a higher standard of conduct and behavior IS expected from those given the authority to kill without consequence. To the police, its merely a "suggestion" and not that big of a deal.
Thats how they got to where they are today.....
