Local Salisbury Man Shoots And Kills Florida Deputy

Suspect in Orange County deputy's shooting identified; woman in custody

Authorities say a central Florida deputy was fatally shot while responding to a car burglary call in Windermere.

Officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday Deputy Jonathan Scott Pine saw a suspect sitting in a car with a woman late Monday. The suspect started to run and the deputy pursued him.

Investigators said Pine chased the suspect through the backyard of a home when the suspect shot the deputy. Pine collapsed from his injuries and later died at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Authorities said the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Benjamin Holtermann, was found dead in a nearby neighborhood. Authorities said it doesn't appear the deputy fired at him, so they are trying to determine whether the suspect shot himself.

The woman with Holtermann during the initial burglary call is identified as 18-year-old Erica Pugh. Authorities say she is being charged with multiple counts of burglary and grand theft.

Publishers Notes: If you look this man up on Maryland Case Search you'll see he was convicted of a crime and was sentenced to 17 years. It was then reduced to seven years but he was released from prison after only serving FIVE years. The case below is not the case I just mentioned but it proves he is a Salisbury resident.

Just wondering if this was a plea bargain or jury found him guilty. Just tragic and it is a punch in the face for the Wicomico justice system and the state of Maryland. My prayers and thoughts are with the deputy's family.

Holterman was questioned in connection with an August 2013 residential burglary by Fruitland, Maryland police last fall.

Fruitland Police Detective Brian Beaver told WESH 2 News that he brought Holtermann in for questioning in October, but could not charge him.

"Unfortunately, there was not enough evidence to proceed in that case," Beaver said. He expressed his condolences, and that of his agency, to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Every murder suspect is shown on their prior arrest photo. If he was in his cage, this wouldn't have happened. If the judges were held liable for their fatal mistakes, these things wouldn't happen.

The girl used to live in Delmar and is also trash. She also has a history of burglary in Rutland. What a stellar pair.

Why is it a punch in the face for Wicomico??? He was wanted and never was tried in Wicomico. The plea bargain was in another county not Wicomico.

that girl was in an out of the court system of wicomico county...they NEVER did anything to punish her and kept letting her get away with everything. This has been happening more and more often in this area due to the lack of interventions by the court system. Now this man's family has to suffer for it. Wicomico County Courts should be ashamed of themselves!!!
