Be Very Careful What You Wish For

While far too many Americans are becoming dependent on our government, the hot topic these days is assault weapons.

America was founded on the right to bear arms. I want you to THINK about that for a minute.

Are we to become that stupid today to a point in which we're actually going to allow our very own government to regulate what kind of weapons we can own?

Have you not seen and understood world history over time? Oh, some of you are sitting there thinking, yes, the government should ban certain weapons. Well, what happens when there comes a day in which our government tells us what we should do in another area and you reach for that weapon to defend this Country and OUR rights and the weapon is gone. What happens when the government comes knocking on your door and THEY are holding assault weapons and all you have left is a BB Gun?????

Sure, you can sit there and ignore these possibilities and claim them as paranoia but let me assure you, our government has ENOUGH CONTROL over our lives and America is nowhere near as free as it used to be.

We cannot protect every one. There will always be crazy and unstable people out there, unless our government decided they too need to be eliminated. Hmmm, soon enough they'll be telling you when and if you can receive medical help or even if we live or die.

WAKE UP PEOPLE. It is extremely sad and unfortunate what we have seen with some of these mass killings. HOWEVER, remember that OUR children have been placed in a GOVERNMENT facility. A facility in which THEY were to protect our children and THEY FAILED US. Funny how there's no attention going towards that situation and instead they want to make it all about ONE crazy gunman and the weapons he stole.

Right on brother.

No weapon is a threat to a government that has armored vehicles, tanks, unmaned drones that can shoot missiles.

What they want to do and are asking for is far from what they will get. One thing I do believe is that the guns show loop holes that allow people to buy weapons with no background check, is a good place to start.

Anonymous said...

Yeah if only a background check could predict the future.

I agree with the gun shows. I also agree with making sure mental health people should be restricted from owning guns. Just remember, this person stole these guns from his mother. Expand on that for a minute. Do we restrict all people who may have a child who has a mental condition?

I even said yesterday, let's wait and see what they come up with, rather than attacking Obama for wanting better regulations.

Instead, Obama spent 95% of his time talking about the fiscal cliff and 5% of the time about the children that were killed and how we might better protect our children in federal government schools.

Someone else said it a few weeks back. We can require every person traveling on a plane to go through a metal detector but we do not do so in federal schools.

I should clarify my first remark. "I agree with the gun shows". What I mean is, I agree they should have better regulations, agreeing with the comment just above mine.

Yup, let's have a TSA for schools and balloon this terrible department and get them in our schools-
That's when I take my kids out of school for good.

Can you imagine the costs involved as well... with no money to pay for any of this... I ask and no one ever gives an answer to "Where do you get the money" The country and states are broke

People need to stop blaming the guns it was the mothers fault for NOT securing the weapon especially with a son with issues.

There are background cks to get a handgun and also mental health cks put the blame where it belongs his parent.

anonymous 10:53, Have you ever been to a BOE Meeting? Have you ever heard them talk about wanting and needing more money? They always say, ITS ABOUT THE CHILDREN. Yet YOU and they are not willing to protect our children.

We can bail out some of the largest corporations in the world and even agree that they don't have to pay us back for everything we loaned them, but it's not in the budget to protect our children?

Anonymous said...

Does there need to be tighter control on these gun shows absolutely but getting rid of the clips will do nothing.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 10:53, lets keep the corrupt government police agencies out of our schools, compel certain school officials to carry concealed weapons and to exercise their 2nd admendment right to bear arms for exactly CERTAIN SITUATIONS that may arise.

HIS mother may have some of the blame, for which she paid for with her life, but the blame is on HIM.

HE is the one who shot his mother in the face 4 times, loaded up her car with her weapons, drove to that school and did evil.

And HE, being the coward HE was, shot himself when he knew the police were there.

You think those kids are blaming his mother or anyone else, other than him?

Let's focus on the mentally disturbed folks, instead of a piece of machinery that will be still and idle until someONE picks it up.

The NRA has been pushing for an Instacheck system for years. The libs have fought them tooth and nail. The same system could be setup for illegals to prevent hem from being hired. That with a prison term fro hiring them then they would walk home.

Very well said Joe.

The Government has been waiting for a moment like this to take our firearms away. Maybe they planned the whole thing?

11:13 I have to disagree with your comment she had NO right leaving her guns around unsecured and especially should have NEVER taken him to a shooting range, she knew of her sons mental issues in school that's why she home schooled him he was a ticking time bomb waiting to strike and unfortunate for her but real unfortunate for the children and educators, i have a son and a handgun and he has no issues and goes to school but i guarantee you one thing my weapon is SECURED.

Australians and the British protect themselves with BB gunns and air guns, yeah lets do that.....NOT.

So if someone steals your car and kills someone while running from the police should we hold you accountable for that since you apparently didn't secure your vehicle and Im sure you knew that someone might steal it since the crime is so bad.

The fault lies with the person that did the shooting and no one else!

People should read the second amendment. It was initially intended for a militia to prevent physical government abuse. Either way it is worded in a way that is open to many interpretations. Second, look at the rate of mass killings during the assault weapons ban from the mid nineties- 2004. And look at what has happened since 2004; it's a severe contrast. Finally when it comes to the second amendment the legal papers written during the constitution drafting process specifically state that the intention was to update the Constitution every 19 years to accomodate changes in society. Back then weapons were slow to load and not possible to create mass killings in 5 minutes. The amendment should be updated.

I mean come on grenades and other explosives are a form of arms, but they are banned. Whats the difference?

1149 I am responsible for guns in my HOME that are secured, i cant help what someone does OUTSIDE of my property whether its my car, boat, motorcycle, etc etc but i can and will secure dangerous items within my residence, So it is two totally different issues.

Go ahead make it even more easier for the criminal to rob, rape, assault, break into my home, steal, and kill, while i protect myself with a MUSKET,and a pee shooter.

The bottom line is, the solution to preventing mass school tragedies should not even focus on any particular insturment of death.

Didn't we learn from Sept
11th? All avenues must be focused on for any meaningful preventative measures to occur if politicians and policy makes are really concerned about school safety.
No one should be able to walk in a school and kill even 1 person on that property.
The buzzer system in this particular school was a false sense of security because it was designed in such as way that someone could easily reach in after breaking a window and buzz themselves in. Who approved this system? It's called thinking ahead and that's what needs to be done to prevent school tragedies.

The second amendment clearly says a REGULATED militia.

it was reported on Free Republic's site yesterday that this young man had been into "devil worship" for many years and on anti-psychotic drugs for quite awhile. his barber of many years said he always looked down and never had actual eye contact with anyone. no; we need to keep the blame on him; no one else. yes; there are things we can do regarding mental health etc. but leave the guns out of it.

Anonymous said...

1:00 you are an ignorant fool. "regulated" as used in the second amendment refers to a well trained and disciplined group of citizen soldiers who can work and fight together in an effective manner. it DOESN'T mean "contolled" by the government.

Anonymous said...

Dear 11:51 and 1:00

Do a little study on the 14th amendment and it's relationship to the 2nd. Constitutional scholars settled that issue in the 1800's. Liberals are always saying the right to bear arms is only for the military and police (also said by communist dictators). As for the grenade comment, doesn't seem like a good form of SELF DEFENSE.

I was waiting for the Government conspiracy to show up here. It came with 11:37 a.m. Yep, our Government planned the murders of 20 innocent children and 6 adults just so that we could start a conversation regarding gun control. Talk about a CRAZY gunman! there you have it.

Anonymous said...

1:14 How in the world does regulated mean trained and disciplined? Regulated means controlled by regulations.

Remember the politicians" creed: "Never let a good disaster go to waste!"

11:51, the every 19 yr thing was suggested in a letter from Jefferson to Madison. Madison disagreed and the matter was abandoned by Jefferson.
Jefferson did believe that humans are in a perpetual state of change but the principles of liberty NEVER change though our understanding of it does change.

Jefferson believed Constitution was not perfect and it SHOULD be amemded when a flaw within it's language is shown to hinder liberty: Example 13th Amendment abolishing slavery.
The whole document was based on the philosophy of liberty which never changes.
BTW-Jefferson never did end up helping to draft the Constitution.

Our country was not founded on the right to bear arms. The Bill of Rights was added after the founding. That's why they are called "amendments."

This is an important discussion. Let's not screw it up with emotional blather.

I know that my neighbor has several semiautomatic high power rifles and thousands of rounds of ammo. In addition to his collection of high power handguns. Should I go ahead and buy that RPG (rocket propelled grenade) that I have been looking at? I feel I need to defend myself and my family.

EVERY state needs concealed carry, mandatory training, full background ck,mental health ck,NO buying guns at gun shows period, If arrested and put in the system your gun is seized until you are proven innocent..YES that's just the way it is in America you are proven guilty until found innocent , and watch the crime rate DROP in this country, but NO we have idiots that want to leave us defenseless to the CRIMINALS who WILL have guns NO MATTER what, like the old saying says i would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

How do you know he was a ticking time bomb?

Well if you have small children in your house you should have them secured. If something were to happen, God forbid, you would be charged also.

What she, or anyone, does with her property, in her home, is nobody's business.

She was using the range as a way of teaching responsibility, she said. Regardless, nobody could have foretold he would do something like this.

Hindsight is 20/20.

If someone owns a lot of weapons, sure they need to be secured. But if you don't have access to one readily, you are in trouble if someone comes in on you.

Or you can ask them not to attack you while you hunt for the key to the safe, load the weapon and bring it to bear.

Or if you're really strong, you could pick up the safe and hit them with it.

1217 I would say that 4 weapons is a lot.
