Fights Breaking Out At Bennett Middle School

Over the past few days at least two fights that we have become aware of have broken out at or around Bennett Middle School.

One was last night just across the street from Bennett and the other was in the bathroom.

BOTH fights were videotaped on cell phones. It's been reported that they have a look out in the bathroom while the fight takes place.

Salisbury News came to learn that the administrators are not only aware of the fights and videos, they allegedly are trying to keep parents from knowing about these fights through confidential letters to the Staff.

If your child has been a victim of one of these fights, (or others) please let other parents become aware of this by commenting on this Post.

Put them on YouTube!

my kid tells me it's all gang related, but it is probably because they don't get a new school to tear up. Boot their butts out so the ones that want to learn can do so without the constant drama

This is nothing new. Fights used to happy several times a week when I used to go there back in the late 80s.

You literally couldn't miss them. Everyone would swarm around to the front or side of the building to watch.

Luckily, they tended to be minor skirmishes, and I don't recall anything major ever coming out of it.

In other words, I have no reason to believe this sort of thing ever stopped.

Quite a few suspensions today at BMS...5 + 5 and request for expulsion...

Yeah, I am sure it is because they don't have a new school to tear up. I doubt that they are trying to hide it from the parents. Drama. They probably heard of possible fights and asked staff to pay close attention. Sounds reasonable, and not so much a conspiracy. Kids are kids. There were fights in my school all the time back in the day.

ISS? Or the out of school suspension, where it is still considered an excused absence and all work can be made up???

Serious suspensions, gang related, photographic evidence, charges filed - not run of the mill fights. Wait for police blotter to see more details.

What about the one last week (Friday) between a black boy and a white boy. The white one ended up knocked out and taken to the hospital by ambulance. Never heard how he was.

The excused absence and allowed to make up work is a state rule. I dont agree with it but have to follow it when I suspend kids.

5+5 means out of school. ISS is not given for fights. MOST of the time a fight is an automatic 5 days out of school. If it is a bad fight or one where there was premeditation and planning, 5 + 5 more is almost always what happens. The +5 must be approved by the BOE.

The expulsion requests where for all 7 students involved. You don't get ISS with request of expolsion. I really hope the request is granted these youngsters need to be made examples of. And it was made on an announcement at 2:58 to all students that if they did not want to be there to personally let briggs know and he would see they get their wish. If they did not want to come to school and follow the rules. Yes the fights were gang related they were "jump ins"

Maybe if the adults (ha ha) would grow up and act accountable and responsible; then the (ha ha)children would behave in the same manner. Yes, I know this is a dream due to the stupid rules of the BOE, State, and anyone else that refuses to listen to the situations on an individual basis. And,... to think, when I was in school, they measured my skirt to see if it no more than 1 inch above my knee! Dear Lord, please help all of us!

My little brother attends bennett middle and he has been arguing with other kids that attend there because they want to fight him because he refuses to be in their gangs . Gangs are definitely present in that middle school .

People act like this is new! Really, first parents were comparing WiHi calling it a thug school, Parkside the preppy school, of course there are places to hide and have sex during the daytime, now Bennett "oh no things dont happen here" It happens whether it is a new or old school. It should not matter if it is black or white (get over it). What matters is getting on track with the times and get our kids back from the street! Everybody! Dont matter who you are or what your job title is everyones child is suspectible to this type of violence. Have a nice day!

Wi-Hi IS a thug school now. The group of kids that would join gangs in 11th grade are now already in them in 9th grade.

Why, in a county that's just 30% minority, do we have a high school that's more than 50% minority and almost 70% qualify for free and reduced meals? The BOE has purposely designed the attendance districts so Wi-Hi gets most of Wicomico County's poorest kids, who bring with them little to no home support. All these numbers are easily verified through BoE and MSDE websites.

Wi-Hi is a thug school because the BOE wants it to be - one big ol' dumping ground for Bennett and Parkside to shove their problem kids to.

this is what happens when you let liberals control things.if certain people didnt lose the backbone thay had a long time ago we would not be in this situation.

Kids are being bullied, bothered because they are not as tough as the other young men or a child dress better than others. Our children are corner to fight or get taunted more by peers. When our kid/kids fight back their punishment is just as severe. I do not believe it's about gangs. Some of the problem students are forced to attend school or their parents PUBLIC ASSISTANCE IS OFF! Why should our kids have to suffer?! Some of the school administration that are at the school JMBH, make situations worst for African American students. Kids are treated differently by some & if your child is a honor roll student of color. SOME administrators would  to see them fail! Race should not
be a factor. Caucasian children are just as bad as the other the other races.
