Chesapeake Bay Health Declines In 2010, Analysis Finds

WASHINGTON - The health of the Chesapeake Bay declined in 2010, a new scientific analysis finds.

The nation's largest estuary received a C-minus on this year's report released by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. The 4 percent decline is the first in four years.

Two major storms -- one on Jan. 27, 2010 and the other on March 15, 2010 -- contributed to the ranking, which was down from 2009's grade of C.

"While efforts to reduce pollution have been stepped up in recent years, nature overwhelmed those measures in 2010 and temporarily set the bay back a bit," said UMCES-EcoCheck scientist Heath Kelsey, in a news release.

Watch O'Malley put a spin on this and claim it was failed septic systems that caused it instead.

could it be from all the chicken manure run off from the farmers? or could it be because the decline in the underwater grasses from the watermen dredging? or maybe the salisbury water treatment plant that spills more than they actually report?

Has anyone actually looked at the water at the Baltimore inner harbour. That nasty slime coat it has over it wouldn't have anything to do with it would it.

The sediment is not coming from the Eastern Shore. Look at the imagery here:

Good call Al. We have all known this but the Western Alliance wants to only sanction us on the Shore. Don't forget we mean nothing to them and never will.

-To restore the bay will take efforts from both the Eastern Shore, Western Shore, and northern tributaries. Anywhere from where waters come into the bay must pitch in. Arguing back and forth, does nothing to solve the problems facing the Bay. I, like many from MD have seen it's decline in my lifetime. At some point, we gotta get past fingerpointing and get down to fixing the problems.
