WASHINGTON -- The year is only 10 days old, and already nine families are planning funerals in Prince George's County.
As they develop a new action plan, officials in the county are turning to those not in uniform to help stay the string of murders mostly inside the Capital Beltway.
Prince George's County Police will meet with community groups and business leaders in all police districts this week.
"This will be a concerted, sustained effort that will include the PGPD, Office of the Sheriff, municipal police departments, federal agencies and community and business leaders," says acting Police Chief Mark Magaw, according to a police release.
"Together, we are a formidable force that will bring calm to all segments of our County."
Nineteen communities in the county have their own police departments. From Hyattsville to District Heights and Cottage City to Bladensburg, police chiefs from all city police departments in Prince George's will coordinate operations through conference calls with county police.
County detectives also are being transferred.

I am sure the suspects are no strangers to the system. When judges start thrown the book at these fools murders will go down. The judiciary system sucks in MD. Sentencing terms are put on the books for a reason, judges need to start implimenting them as they should and these crimes would go down.
439-Yeah, because someone who'll blow your head off is worried about 3 hots a cot and rent free. Has increasing sentencing lowered marijuana/coke/crack sales? I do think though a concealed carry permit that is actually attainable by law-abiding citizens could make a difference, but you probably think the thugs would change their M.O. with tighter laws.
