Taking uninsured cars off the highway.
Recently, in the City of Dallas, Texas, they passed an ordinance that if you are pulled over by law enforcement and not able to provide proof of insurance, your car will be towed right away.
Afterwards, to retrieve your car after being impounded, you must show proof of insurance to have your car released. This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars that are typically driven by mostly illegals.
Shortly after the 'No insurance' ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up quickly and were full after nine days.
Most of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.
Not only must you provide proof of insurance to have your car released, you have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and charged $20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.
I would suggest other cities across the nation to follow what Dallas, Texas is doing.
Not only is it getting uninsured drivers off the road, but it is taking away vehicles driven by illegals that have no insurance that might endanger your life.

Dallas' solution, get them off the road WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality. Wonder how the ACLU or the Justice Department will get around this one.

People can say what they want about Texas but Texas seems to have solutions to a lot of the problems other states can't seem to get a grasp on.

All of you thinking Maryland will be this proactive better think again. We are the _hit house of the East Coast.
Texas comes up with these solutions because they are not afraid to tick someone off like the rest of the country is. "Politically Correct" does not fit well in Texas.
nice idea but its not illegal to OWN a car without insurance- just operate one- so there is already an EASY way to game the system in practice. If you know even a single person with insurance they can go get your car out with you... they can be a total stranger, in fact- I know people in TX who have done this and one guy who makes a good side hustle standing outside the impound with his insurance card in tow, quick way to make 100, no questions asked. do that 10 times in a day an call out of work for a week!!!

how about do away with insurance first?
This wouldn't work in Maryland because Maryland has a way to know your car is not insured already. They know it but they wait until you need to renew your tags or buy another car to let you know there's an insurance violation!
If Maryland workers would do their job, we would have much less of a problem here!
One other thing Texas does, or atleast used to do is your car has to go through inspection annually. Put in place with it need to prove insurance coverage at the time of inspection and there you go!
Maryland could generate a HUGE amount of money by putting this policy into place and we would all be safer on the roads knowing the vehicles pass inspection.
thought the car had to have insurance not the person, how would that work?
To those trashing Maryland, several counties already have police cruisers with cameras that scan your tag while driving and pull you over if anything is questionable. I got pulled over once because of this in bmore county it was quite annoying actually.
