I spoke with you on the phone a few days ago about filing as a candidate for city council. At this time I have not finalized a press release due to being on Military Orders, for training this week. The Daily Times contacted in regards to providing them with some information and I wanted to provide you with the same.
My name is Joel Dixon, I'm 25, and have lived in the Salisbury area for the majority of my life. I graduated from James M. Bennett and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. I recently obtained an Associates of Applied Sciences from Wor-Wic Community College, in Emergency Medical Services. I am currently employed with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic. I am a member of the Maryland Army National Guard and hold the rank of Sergeant with the 290th Military Police Company and have deployed once to Iraq. I am also a Volunteer Lieutenant with the Salisbury Fire Department. As far as experience with municipal governments, I have voted in every election since turning 18 and as a public servant my career is affected by decision made by local leaders every day. I plan to have a press release ready prior to the 15th and would be happy to provide you with a copy if you wish. I went to school with Joel and have stayed in contact with him. I think he would be some fresh new blood with no ties. It would be great to have a open minded member in the city govt.
What does he know about balancing a budget? Getting road / waste water or water projects done? How about creating jobs? Crime prevention?

Your statement has me T-OFF, he can be no worse than the three misfits that are already in office, always voting together. They are all OLD and have lost there touch while sitting waiting for bus to come by.
At least Mr. Joe Dixon is a young man looking to help and chance what is going on in Salisbury today.
What are his connections to Gordy, Hoppes, Comegys and such? Will he want even more for the fire department at the expense of police?
You are all very fascinating. You're yelling about the current council and what they are screwing up and messing up and can't do, and now when a fine young man is pulling his chair to the table, you rank him about being too young and not knowing what to do....???? What the heck do the current trio know, regardless of their age, regardless of their experience. Listen to this guy. After all, you elected a 20'ish year old to the County Council and, in fact, he got more votes than anyone else. Heck, I'm nearly 60 years old and beginning to think my generation has screwed up enough, so let's allow these young people to give it a shake.

Joel Dixon is one of the biggest trouble makers in the Salisbury Fire Department. He plays the role of a volunteer firefighter, but then he stirs crap with the paid guys. Funny thing is he is a paid guy in Anne Arundel County and hates the vollies up there. This is one guy that you don't want to vote for. Just remember this and don't let him tell you any different. He is friends of Bill Gordy and Jeremy.
1055-Name someone on the council who does. Proof is in the results, or lack thereof.
I've known Joel for over a decade, and if I still lived in the area, he'd get my vote. He's a stand up guy.

12:32 Terry Cohen is a business woman and has a degree from Penn. She has kept her campaign promises and has worked hard on the behalf of the city - not special interest groups. Louise Smith broke every campaign promise she made and alligns herself with all sorts of special interests who rip off residents from tenants to people having their cars towed. How is the $1.8 million price tag for the Bricks redevelopment working for you or the pending acceptance of the "gift" of the toxic Linens of the Week site. that's all Gary Comegys and Louise Smith. The $10 million fire palace, Comegys. The fire boat: Coemgys, Smith, and Shields. The fire house giveaway: Smith, Comegys and Shields. Mr. "on time and under budget for the WWTP": Comegys. Oh everything is wonderful with the audit: Smith. No it's not. Read it on- line. Terry Cohen, on the other hand, is a diligent public servant who has delivered what she promised and more. I will vote for her again. It is a big mistake to throw out someone who has proven to be honorable. They are too few and far between. I would not vote for Comegys or Smith again, nor Ireton for that matter. None of them have doen what they promised the voters.

Perhaps it would be helpful to provide some background on Salisbury elections. They are held in staggered two-year cycles. This time, three District 2 seats (most of the city's geography)those held by Smith, Comegys and Cohen are open. The other District 2 seat, currently held by Campbell, the District 1 seat, currently held by SHields, and the office of Mayor are open in two years. People don't seem to understand that.
It never ceases to amaze me that as soon as someone says they're a member of the SFD, they are stereotyped as good 'ol boys, troublemakers, etc. You say Mr. Dixon will have an interest in the fire department? Of course he will you moron! It is something that is obviously very close to him, look at his committment to his chosen profession. He has a degree, is an NREMT-P, has achieved Eagle Scout (which is a hell of an accomplishment), Soldier/Veteran, and he is an MP. I think he will do an outstanding service to the city of Salisbury. I'm sorry, so what's the problem with him again?

Some think so. I do not. It may have been a good organization back in the day but the last few decades it has become a place for racists, sextists and pedo's looking for little boys to molest.

620-Yes, that is your opinion. Certainly there are some troops who have bad elements, Joels' was not one of those. I know literally every guy that was in Joel's troop(not exactly hard to do as his troop was quite small in size), had it not been for the longtime connection I had with my own troop, I would've joined his.
Like I said, he's a stand up guy. I knew him not only from school, but from scouts, outside of school, and we've been buds for a over a decade. How people somehow knock him for his credentials, is laughable. An eagle scout, a serving veteran, a volunteer AND paid FF. Consider the City Council, have they done a satisfactory job? It'd be hard to find anyone who feels that way.

Rick Hoppes is a Boy Scout leader. Did he do right by the citizens by his wasteful and extravagant spending in his short time in charge of the fire department?
Not in my opinion. He might be a great guy to go camping with or do charity work with, but I don't want him running anything that affects me.
That said, I'll give Joel Dixon an open mind. But an open mind also means I'm not going to assume he can make decisions in our best interest just because he was an Eagle Scout.
My son is 15 and about to earn his Eagle. Does that make him qualified. I think not.

Joel Dixon is a respectable member of this community. He works a full-time job, owns a home, and spends a significant amount of time volunteering, not just in the fire department. I am certain he has spent more time serving others than most individuals twice his age.
I find it hard to believe that people who have genuine interest in our community and the local politics can attack a valuable servant in our community based on his affiliation with the fire department. When did community service become a bad thing? The fact that Mr. Dixon works in another county is irrelevant; we all need jobs and have bills to pay. He takes financial responsibity seriously, and will continue to do so when it applies to the city.
Any public servant, volunteer firefighter and service member deserves recognition for their contributions, not criticism.
A young, energetic man with new ideas is exactly what we need. Be forward thinking and open minded. Electing Dixon could be a great thing for this city.
