Mayor James Ireton, Jr. reminds the public, today, that two months have passed since he
introduced the Salisbury Safe Streets Legislative Package. The package was introduced to the
public and given to City Council on Monday, August 2nd, 2010. This means City Council has had
two months to place this on a Work session agenda and Council President, Louise Smith, has yet to
do so. Mayor Ireton urges the public, in the wake of the current wave of violence, to contact Mrs.
Smith and demand that the legislative package get a hearing. The mayor has asked that the package
have an up or down vote by Thanksgiving of this year.

Good going Mayor for calling Ms Smith out on the rug. This is how we need to keep pushing so things can be kept on the agenda, and the ones dragging their heels are called on, just like in any business, set deadlines and keep hammering away. And the posts about it will let the public know. One thing about it if they have any hope of keeping their jobs they have to at least look like their doing. Remember elections clear out dead wood. Bravo.
Just be sure you know that this is Louise Smith's lack of maturity, backed up by Shanie Shields laziness. The other two ladies are out there holding meetings including letting the landlords have their say.
Even if she hates the legislation, Smith has a duty to discuss it!
Instead, she goes whining to the press about how long she had to wait for it.
I don't care how long she had to wait. It's here now, most of the work is done for her just like always so she needs to do her job.
Like watching my kid when he was two stamp his feet, fold his arms and say, "no, ain't gonna"!
When are the powers to be going to realize that it is time for PROFESSIONAL leadership in the city of Salisbury?? We are being taken over by gangs riding around the streets with loaded guns in their cars. ask any professional police officer or fireman what is going around here and you will hear the truth. Our paper tells us nothing about the crime that happens every day. We need a professional business person to run this city, not a group of housewives and retired teachers who act like imbeciles. Salisbury is not business friendly at all. Look at the Railroad Station project, look at Benedicts, etc, etc. New business brings JOBS!!
