WASHINGTON - As Maryland gets ready to ban talking on a hand-held cell phone, new research finds that banning texting while driving may actually prompt more crashes.
The Highway Loss Data Institute, part of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, compared collision insurance claims in four states before and after texting bans. It found more crashes after the bans took effect.
Researchers think drivers are lowering their phones so police can't see them texting. By doing so, they are taking their eyes off the road for longer stretches of time.

An idiot is an idiot is an idiot.
No matter what is done with regards to passing new laws, some people will continue to text and talk on their phones because they are too stupid to realize the danger of doing so.
