A Letter To The Editor

Letter to the Editor:

"It is 1:42 PM on August 23, 2010 and Hebron Volunteer Fire Chief Bush Beach is at 17121 Crooked Oak Lane requesting the Sheriff's Department to respond to the scene because he has been there several times on ambulance calls for the same thing.

Is David "Bush" Beach, who is a State employee allowed to take fire and ambulance calls when he is on the clock for the state of Maryland? Does the State of Maryland as his employer let him come and go as he pleases? Can someone please verify this?

If he is working today it can easily be verified that he is playing volunteer FARMIN today because his transmission to Wicomico 911 is taped and his request for the Sheriff's Office is time stamped at both agencies. It is understandable that he is on vacation or has a day off, but this happens on a daily basis! Kind of reminds me of that guy from the SHA who used to hide his state truck in the cemetary and spend the day at home."

Trust me he doesn't help anyone on the ambulance. If anything he might drive the gut bucket. What a goof!!

What is a volunteer FARMIN? A farmer that volunteers to farm and gives away his crops?

Anonymous said...

I heard his hours were from 10am to 1pm with an hour lunch break!

Not sure about MD law but many states have regulations that limit or prevent employers from taking disciplinary action against vol. firefighters. Some regs say its ok to be late to work or returning from a break others allow employes to leave as long as employer is notified of need to respond. Many dedicated employees will not leave for a BS call (alarm) but will respond to major calls (structure fires)but some use it as an excuse to get out of work.

Must be a slow news day! Bet the COWARD that wrote this would not have the nerve to ask these questions face to face?

A state job is a taxpayer funded job and you are required to be "on the job" as stated in your job description. David Beach and Gary Comegys has been getting away with abusing their jobs for years and it will continue until the right person finds out about it. If someone tells me where he works I will contact his employeer and complain to the governor's office and cc the members of the general assembly.

I have no problem with this. As a volunteer they make a commitment to the city and it citzens to help when they are needed. As a member of that community I would hope the business would let a person go on a call if it warrented it. Now I am sure this is abused just like everything else in our system but what happens if there is a fire in Delmar? Do you just hope there are enough firemen that are off work or unemployed to come help? If someone working for me was a firefighter or paramedic I would take pride in the fact that my employees are giving back to the community they live and work in.

OK...while I'm personally not a big fan of the Beach family...like it or not, no one can dispute the fact that they ALL are there when needed and are committed to the Hebron Volunteer Fire Dept and their community.

AMEN 3:47
Citizens can't pick a convenient time of day for illness. Anyone who is a dedicated volunteer responds when needed and I as a potential patient want to keep it that way. Who are you anyway? Do you watch for something to complain about? Nothing else to do? What do you do for your community????? Thank you to all volunteers and their families for your commitment. It certainly is a thankless job these days. No one has anything good to say. Thanks Mr. Beach for helping someone today.

LOOK JOE, you cant bust on him when Gary got away with it for over 25 years and nobody ever did anything about it. There is written proof he did in his attendance on fires during daytime hours.

Its the good old boy system in Salisbury Maryland and it will never change. Stop making waves you can surf dude...

To 3;47 PM and 4:10 PM I don't think the post was about a dedicated volunteer. I think it was more like someone abusing their job. Like it or not the State of Maryland has rules for their employees and this was a violation. By the way I think the poster mention an ambulance call didn't they. Yes I just checked and that is exactly what it said. As a matter of fact the county tax payers fund a paid paramedic and an EMT through the County Council and Mr. Beach's services were not needed on the call. He was responding as a volunteeer fire chief and not as a paramedic or an EMT so get over yourself!

Joe didn't write this. Someone sent this to him asking for opinions.

Go back to school and learn how to read.... DUDE

the only fire companies that have a paramedic and emt are delmar, salisbury, and fruitland. the rest of the companies, need vollies to respond to get medic unit out. until there is a county system this is how has to be.

Just because Bubba Comagees did it you are saying that it's ok for Bush Beach to do it? I don't think so.

You all are seriously pathetic. The man responded on a emergency call to help someone. If it was YOUR emergency I bet you wouldn't be bitching about who showed up to help you.

Anonymous said...

You guys need to get a life. If no volunteer could respond during normal work hours how would people get the help they need? Don't be such a friggin' anus. If it was YOUR mother I'll bet you would be happy that someone responded even if they were on work hours.

State employees are the pitts and pure lazy. If they did a days work they would have to take off a week of sick leave to recover. This guy is just one of thousands that abuse the government. He uses the fire dept. as an excuse to get off and play firemin. I know him and he is a JERK.

that is not true. Hebron has paid EMT's. Jonathan Hitch is one of them. DUH, good try though.

You are wrong. This guy responded to stroke his ego and not to help anyone.

I bet you got beat up a lot. Don't you have anything better to do than trying to ruin someone else's life. Mind your own damn business.

Yep, Hebron with Hitch, now there you have something! He couldn't keep a job anywhere else.

Anonymous said...

with little gordy gone you have to pick on someone else.

Used to be the Beaches started more Hebron fires than they put out! Two were convicted.

GIVE IT A BREAK. dont you guys have anything better to do than pick on the firefighters here. I can see if its like a paid department but than you start downing the Vol. Departments. the men and women of these departments don't get paid to wake up all hours of the night to respond or during the day at that. give it a break just because you dont serve your community vol. you gotta pick on those who do. the life of a Vol. Firefighter can be stressful. you never know when you can get a call. so give the firefighters a break. you should be thanking them instead of downing them. you people make me sick!

Anonymous said...

As long as he was sober. No offense Hebron you guys have a reputation of being on calls drunk. I think Mike Lewis made it clear that would not happen anymore. Drunken cry babies. The other half are pot heads. Clean the place up !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

There are even Beach relatives who are in the fire company who barely even go on calls let alone work the carnival, but still are allowed to be called firefighters when everyone else does the work? Whats up with that?> drunks or dont pay their bills. way to go
