BUNDY HURLS ANOTHER GEM IN 2-0 SHOREBIRDS WIN

Planeta Turns In Two Excellent Plays in Right Field

– Bobby Bundy followed a nine-inning complete game performance against Lakewood on August 16th, with a seven-inning shutout of Hickory on Sunday afternoon to lead the Shorebirds to a 2-0 win at L.P. Frans Stadium. The series is now level at one game apiece.

Both offenses were held in check through the first seven innings. The Shorebirds managed only five hits through seven innings, while the Crawdads recorded just three.

Hickory starter Braden Tullis went six innings and allowed four hits and no runs. He struck out four and walked two.

The Shorebirds finally got on the board in the eighth inning against relief pitcher Kyle Ocampo. Ty Kelly led off with a chopper into center field. Mike Flacco followed with a walk. Then, Levi Carolus ripped a single into left-center field to plate Kelly to give the ‘Birds a 1-0 edge. Ocampo was taken out of the game after the Carolus hit in favor of Johan Yan. After Omar Casaymayor grounded into a double play, Carolus scored a passed ball charged to catcher Leonel De Los Santos.

Shorebirds starter Bobby Bundy earned his second straight win in seven shutout frames. Bundy allowed just three hits. He retired eight consecutive batters between the fourth and seventh innings. In his last 16 innings, Bundy has allowed just eight hits and two runs.

James Brandhorst tossed a scoreless eighth inning for Delmarva. He has not allowed a run in his last seven outings, spanning 9.1 innings.

David Walters entered in the ninth inning and earned his third save of the season. The Crawdads plated a run on a single by Jared Bolden. Walters got Matt West to ground out to short to end the game.

Right fielder Mikey Planeta turned in two excellent plays in right field. In the third inning, he recorded his South Atlantic League leading 14th outfield assist as he gunned out Ed Koncel trying to stretch out a single. Then, with one out in the ninth inning, Planeta dove forward to rob Jared Prince of a single.

Orioles fourth rounder Trent Mummey went 0-for-5 in his debut with the ‘Birds.

The Shorebirds and Crawdads play game three of the series on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. RHP Brent Allar makes the start for the Shorebirds against lefty Miguel De Los Santos.
