BREAKING NEWS!!!!

Salisbury City Park

My mother in law and sister in law were riding by the park on the back way in (by the residential area going towards the moose lodge) and saw these three guys standing by the building. One was peeing on the building and the other 2 were looking out around the building. Then they saw this woman jogger coming by and they looked they were going to jump out. The next thing you knew she went by and never saw them and they took after the woman. My mother in law pulled over and called 911. My sister in law jumped out of the van and went running down the hill towards the woman screaming "they're behind you run, faster!" because the woman had no idea they were even there. She said the 3 guys kept coming at them then took off when they saw my mother in law with the phone in her hand. It took the cops a good 25 min to get there and they said they would ride around and see if they saw anyone. My sister in law was really upset because it took them so long and something could have happened to them before the cops even got there. She said the woman was really grateful they had seen these guys because no one knows what they could have done to her. My sister in law lives by the park and said that she has never seen anyone just hanging out around the buildings on that back side. Usually just walkers and joggers since it just wraps around the park. She said that if she hadn't noticed them standing there, it may have not turned out as good. Please let your community know since I know that the cops weren't concerned about it at all. I would hate to see something happen to someone at our park because of unawareness.

Thanks!

Crime is becoming a very serious issue Folks. It's rare to see Police Reports and Press Releases from the SPD any more and they don't want you to know about situations like this because there's an election just days away.

Please look out for each other and THANK YOU to the individuals who had that woman's back. GREAT WORK!

Yes, I know about the higher ups not reporting the crimes. The officers on the streets are great guys. They came to my rescue, arrested the guy and we're going to court over it; but it never appeared anywhere on the police crime reports in their press releases. I wonder how many other crimes they don't report. Is this how they're able to say crime is down. If we don't report it, we don't have to use it in our statistics? Glad you were there for that woman.

The SPD * car 9* is more worried about who is sitting out in front of the stores in the Giant shopping center and than keeping the public safe. They are worried about 2 cars sitting in front of stores than they are the 4 or 5 cars stuck behind them unable to go around them.

Although I would like to hear it only took a couple minutes for the police to arrive, it just isn't realistic to expect that fast a response. Just look at the number of officers on duty and the square miles they have to cover.

Thank God this woman had those angels watching over her. There was a saying a while back, "It takes a Village to raise a child." Well, it takes a Village to control a Village! Especially now as times get tougher. Neighbors need to pull together, friends need to stay closer. And by all means, we all need to be watch dogs for each other.

Maybe the next time these thugs try something, there will be a few men around to detain them those 25 minutes until police arrive.

maybe these men need to be dropped off in Bear swamp and a little hunting party formed. Hell everything else is out of season. Maybe DNR can open a season on crap bags. Just a thought. i wish i had pulled up on this. They would not have ran far. I got the perfect knee cap adjuster makes it hard to walk afetr adjusting them.

Hope these scum bags are caught. We need old fashion justice. Nick em up a little so the restof us know who they are.

kinda makes you want to carry your permitted weapon to the park and do a little varmint hunting tonight.

That side of town has changed seriously for the worse lately. What needs to be done to get it back like it used to be? Perhaps raise the low rent at the apartments in the area. When rent and prices drop, the crimes go up, a good example was when the boulevard theatre reopened a while back. My wife and I tried a few times to see the movies, but every time huge fights would break out because the affordable prices allowed people to get in just to hang out every night and start fights.. I also wondered if that's what happened to the old skateland too.. So the park ,skateland, the old theater, all kinds of places that are good for Salisbury and give kids something besides chuck E cheese are now unsafe, and it brings down the city as a whole. Any ideas, new mayor candidates?

In broad daylight! Criminals feel very comfortable here. Speaking of women being attacked, did I miss updates on the case of the woman being attacked on Toadvine Road by the thug wearing the mask. The homeowner saved her.

anonymous 3:13, Yeah, I have one. Get Vic out there on Bike Patrol for the next week or two and they'll go away. Then make it a standard routine.

Anonymous said...

3:15 - Joe is right. Nobody knows more of what goes on than Vic K on bike patrol. He's been doing it quietly and faithfully for years dealing with one jerk at a time for a salary that is way too low. Vic K is committed to keeping Salisbury safe.

I see Vic on bike patrol often. In fact, last Friday night, in the freezing cold, he was on his bike patrolling my neighborhood. We need more bike officers.

Anonymous said...

"Crime is becoming a very serious issue Folks"

I think stevie wonder could see that Joe!

Anonymous said...

theres like 6 officers who are supposed to be on bikes, but ride in unmarked cars...why is that? I thought CAT was the new bike patrol!

Anonymous said...

Is it just me, or is 25 min MORE than enough time. Richard 2:50pm states that it is not realistic to expect a fast response time. I can be anywhere in the city in 25min, without lights and sirens.

joe albero said...

Here's an idea. Call Bill Gordy the next time. He's got his new police Cruiser and can get anywhere, any place, any time, faster than any SPD Officer.

The people involved here should get a commendation from the mayor oand the chief of police. You are awesome people to put yourselves at risk to protect this woman. I often jog in this park, but I have stopped going in the wooded area because there are creepy guys hanging out there all the time. You people are the best. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

bike patrol is no more! that was the unit formerly referred to as "COPP". that unit was changed to the "CAT" unit. although they occassionaly ride bikes, the unit is not considered a bike unit anymore

Anonymous said...

If CAT is supposed to be on bike patrol then someone needs to tell Jason King to get up off his mayoral awards and start peddaling.

Anonymous said...

Elect Gary Comegys and you can bet "crime" will go down as the stats get massaged.

Anonymous said...

after 4 years of bubbanomics salisbury will have its own central park crime rate.

Anonymous said...

I hate to say it, but as the economy gets worse the crime will go up!!

Who's bright idea was it to not have bike patrol anymore? It was my understanding that CAT and the former COPP is the same type of unit, just a change in the name!

Anonymous said...

It's not the economy here, maybe a small portion, thieves know the police are way thin and there's always an easy picking here in the 'Bury

Jason King is one of the best cops SPD has ever employed....You must be bitter.

This state should immediately clear the way for Conceal carry.
Until then, the slime will walk all over you because they do not fear a 25 minute police response.
I think we are going to see more conceal carry without a permit.
Most would rather take their chances with a jury then some slime that is attacking you or an innocent.
I know I would.
Maybe O'Malley should come jog in the park without his security detail.

Joe, I am the wife of an SPD officer who tries to let him keep his work at work. I finally asked him and another officer on his squad about SPD and this is what I learned.

When they are full staffed there are 88 sworn officers, which has been the same about for past 10 - 12 years.
There are four road patrol squads who are made up of 3 supervisors and about seven officers each.
The CAT unit which used to be the bike unit only has four officers who work the streets. (supposedly they dont want them riding bikes that much)
There are about eleven detectives to include the supervisors.
Lets think about this, that is only about 32 officers, not including supervisors, who work the streets.

My question is why so many sworn officers not on the streets in this time of crisis. Maybe if they take some of those detectives and put them back on the street, there would not be some many crimes, then they would not need all those detectives anyway.

My husband loves his job, but is tired of being short handed, working his a$$ off for alot less money then other agencies in the area, and of working with supervisors and a command staff that does not care one bit about the road officers.

There are many great officers at SPD who do some great work, but all the command staff and supervisors want are people to handle calls, not be proactive.

I hope and pray that change is coming and for all the officers not only at SPD but all over to be able to go home to their families and loved ones every night.

As far as 5:28 goes, my husband and I know Jason King very well and know him to be the best officer SPD has, ask any of the officers at SPD. Sounds like you are bitter, what you didnt get any awards? Do some work, study more for your test and maybe next time you will be recognized.

I will get off my soap box with this, out with the mayor, out with the chief and the major. For obvious reasons I wil not sign this cause it would come back on my husband. Thankyou and God bless you all.

Joe, The wife of the SPD officer is right. The same number of officer for the last 12 years and look at the increase in the number of residents. This Mayor has overseen massive annexation and population growth yet has refused to increase the number of officers on the road. Gross neglince on the part of the city administration. The increase in crime is a direct result. The residents have been rendered victims at the mercy of the common criminal. Yes, the economy plays a role but not on the scale that we have here. The result of citizens being stripped of the right to defend themselves is exacerbated. We MUST contact our legislators now and demand that our right to keep and bear arms and to carry a concealed firearm be decriminalized so that we can begin to adequately defend ourselves where the police cannot.

The state CANNOT legislate away what our constitution guarantees. How long will we remain victims of those who govern poorly? When will we make a united stand? The time is now folks. Contact your elected officials and tell them. Locally, more officers. Statewide, decriminalize the carrying of concealed firearms by citizens with no criminal record and proper training.

The CAT Team consists of maybe 2 hardworking guys and the rest of them act like it's a big frat party. Mostly young guys who don't want any other SPD officers taking down drug dealers because of their egos. The ones I have met often take pictures on their cell phones and forward them to all family and friends. Most of them are not doing this service for the right reasons, to get drugs and crime off the streets, but to look "cool" and have a bunch of BBQs to brag about the latest bust. The CAT team needs serious officers who are mature enough to handle the assigned tasks. I have been around this group of individuals at many social events, and still can't figure out what the higher ups are thinking when it comes to the selection process for this team. Maybe it's just lack off officer retention. You have to make do with what you have.

It would definitely have turned out much differently had nobody seen these guys.Too bad the police do not use decoys to foil these types of crimes....Can you imagine the look on a thugs face when he approaches a female jogger and whips a pistol out from under her Danskins????Priceless!
The park area has gotten seedy.

All of this going on, and some genius writes in to the "Grapevine" that crime isn't nearly as bad as Debbie Campbell is making it out to be. . .that she's using crime as a "propaganda piece" for her reelection campaign.

Perhaps the author of that letter would sing a different tune if HE was the victim of a violent crime as I was last May. (Right J.T. ???)

My wife and I used to frequent the city park a few years back. It was nice to see the wildlife and go for a leisurely walk to wind down. That all ended when 3 thug kids harassed us verbally and threatened us. I'm a pretty big guy(230lbs well built, 6 feet tall)and nothing I said was scaring them off. I told them to leave us alone and eventually after we ignored them enough they finally went away. This happened back in 2000 and I havent been back since. Now I'm sure these same kids are out committing more violent crimes in the area.

Having moved from one of the supposed "crime infested" big cities this was a new experience for me. It would be nice to think that things here have changed but it seems in 9 yrs they are content to keep the local crime levels consistent from yr to yr. Nothing gets done and things never change. Its the small town mentality at its best.

I just thought I'd pop this comment in to let everyone know the SPD is in serious damage control mode. They have been trying to put up comments here challenging this ever happened, why was a woman jogging alone, (at least 20 times) they don't think this is true, the other people are trying to make themselves hero's, you name it. It's been a joke and I have personally rejected a ton of those kind of comments. If you think about it, why would anyone challenge this in any way? Oh, mind you, always anonymously too!

Get back to work 3rd floor and produce the images from the Ted Shea attempted murder from the Bank. OH, That's right, we're supposed to have forgotten about those!

Anonymous said...

Everyone from other police agencies mock and laugh at the young cops in the "CAT" (meow) unit. Especially the ones who think they know it all about drugs, and have about four years experience. Then of course there are the young guys on the "vice" squad, who think they know everything. Word of advice, as soon as you leave the area, we ALL laugh at you. YOU ARE A JOKE AND DEEP DOWN YOU KNOW IT!!

It is time the public start packing heat...but be slick about it. It is a shame a good citizen cannot defend themselves like it used to be. Watch the Death Wish movies Charles Bronson starred in and you will see what I mean. There are not enough police officers to protect the people, so each of us HAVE to be responsible for our own IMMEDIATE personal safety. There are alot of street urchins out there ready to pounce on us and rob/beat us. PACK THAT HEAT.

this is a great blog with lots of great comments. mr rogers says always be kind to your neighbors and treat them with respect, the way you would want to be treated and salisbury would be a great place. i have read the original post and being a good neighbor i dont want to be negative but the story is lacking in many aspects and just doesn't make sense to me. make if our friend and neighbor could edit this and be a little clearer with the facts then everybody's friend and good neighbor, mr rogers would give it a thumbs up.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Rogers 9:15 pm

WTF are you trying to say? Are you living a pipe dream? Salisbury has become a vicious community, not from homeowner residents, but from the "street urchins" who pray on people and wander the streets.

Anonymous said...

salisbury is a transitioning community who like all such places is experiencing growing pains. just like the child rebelling from their parents does around 13-15 years old. we must be like the patient parent and be tolerant yet stand our ground. mr rogers has lived in salisbury his whole life and has always been very happy here. if you think this is bad maybe go to baltimore or dc and experience some real crime for yourself and then try to explain to dc residents about how bad it is in salisbury. you would be laughed out of town. im sorry to ramble but my point is be kind to your neighbor. treat them like your friend and all will be well. when you look a person up and down and are thinking out loud it says "what are you doing in my neighborhood". this creates bad karma. make the stranger feel welcomed and invite them into your home [or trailer, since this is the eastern shore] have a tasty beverage and lets all be friends. our wourld and small community would be such a nice place and we would all live in harmony. peace

i will tell you what, brother. this whole post just makes me sick. its unamerican and downright hostlie. i have to agree with fred rogers, brother. lets just all try to get along and make salisbury the wonderful place i fell in love with back on the days when i was touring the world, brother!
