Sheriff Mike Lewis

"Mr. Albero,

The residents in the area of Salisbury University have had their share of experiences, both good and bad with students. The usual loud parties and debris left on the neighborhood lawns are a weekly experience. Recently there has been a dramatic increase in vandalism and theft of every description. Most of the incidents are after midnight and never witnessed since hard working families are asleep. The frustration levels are extremely high and the problem is getting worse.

On Saturday afternoon a dark colored SUV cruised down the street and came to a stop. The driver was none other than Sheriff Mike Lewis himself and in uniform. He introduced himself and asked what types of problems the neighborhood residents had been experiencing on Loblolly Lane and Taney Ave. He was given a long list of the problems and the a good idea of those responsible. Sheriff Lewis went right to work on the problems and began knocking on doors of two of the problem houses in the neighborhood. It didn't take long for him to observe the evidence of criminal behavior and several Deputies soon arrived. Numerous stolen items were seen being removed from the home, such as street signs, City barricades and other public property. This came as no surprise to local residents.

I would like to commend the great work of Sheriff Lewis and his Deputies. Where else would you see the head of any police agency patrolling and speaking to residents about a problem on Saturday afternoon. With Sheriff Mike Lewis it is the norm. He is proactive and dedicated to the citizens of Wicomico County. In less than an hour he had gathered information and tackled the problem head on. I'm sure his visit will leave a lasting impression on the college students he spoke to. He assured me that he and his men would keep a watchful eye on the neighborhood. Thanks again Sheriff Lewis for the fantastic job that your doing.

College Area Resident"

So everyone knows, I know just the day before this happened, a citizen who had been contacting Sheriff Lewis regularly made that one final call where he knew things were just about to go down and Sheriff Lewis immediately left his Office in pursuit to the scene in which numerous drug deals were going down. Once the suspect saw Sheriff Lewis' vehicle approaching, he knew it was over. Sheriff Lewis fully expected the suspect to run but he knew he was nailed and Sheriff Lewis found narcotics on his person. After asking his parent to search the residence and they approved, Sheriff Lewis found additional drugs and with any luck we'll have a Press Release soon on that case as well.

Sheriff Lewis AND the entire Wicomico County Sheriff's Office are doing PROACTIVE Police work. Now I'm NOT knocking the SPD, because they have a completely different leader and while the SPD would LOVE to do this same kind of work, Chiefy Webster refuses to allow it to take place because their numbers would go through the roof, making crime look a lot closer to what it REALLY is. Webster SUCKS and is a disgrace to the Badge. Thank You Sheriff Lewis. You're not only an example of what is right, you're setting a bar in which other Officers are extremely proud to be a part of.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Sheriff Lewis and the men and women on your force. I don't dislike students, but lawless behaivor is sucking the life out of our neighborhoods. You are the only one not turning a blind eye.

Mike Lewis is the only one with a BACKBONE in this county. How can anyone employed in the LEO field NOT want to follow his lead?

Beware dealers of illicit goods, Mike Lewis needs new gadgets for his officers.

I live near these houses. The students across from me and dowm the street are model citizens. They aren't all bad. Many times it is the people who visit them who do the damage. In this case it was both. When Mike Lewis arrived on Saturday you knew the situation would be handled. He sent a message and I believe things will improve. Thank you Mike.

If you are having people over your house that destroy stuff when they leave then YOU are the problem. Invite different people, stop inviting them, walk out after them and watch them, replace the items. If you take responsibility to do any of those ok, if not you are just as much the problem.

Sheriff, take over SPD, we need the help.

In reference to your post about responding to a neighbor and approaching the residents; is that totally accurate?

I heard they were not even home-they were in transit to an athletic event (student athletes) Some conflicts of information appear to be present-anyone have more info. Also why would Sheriff Lewis respond to a neighbor who regulary calls - if no one was violating the law.

FYI 75% of the students at SU live off campus. There are plans in motion to build addtional dorm housing which may alleviate the neighborhood concerns.
