Sam's Club Corporate Responds

I just received a message directly from the Sam's Club Corporate Office letting me know they're following Salisbury News and they feel they have been very competitive price wise on their fuel. However, they mentioned they'll be monitoring it very closely from Corporate to assure we're receiving the very best prices around.

Hey, for what it's worth, my hat is tipped to them and I thank them for the response.

I hope that the honchos at Sam's are reading this, because I have some comments to make on this issue.

First off, as a member who pays for the privilege to shop there, the service and prices ought to be much better!

Compare something like milk, for example. A gallon of the moo juice is much cheaper at Sam's than even next door at the Wal*Mart. A dollar a gallon less in some cases. This is the type of bargain we should be getting.

On gas, I usually can find a better deal elsewhere, such as the Oceanic down by Bridgeview or the Shell (on Thursdays) just down the street. I can also wash my windshield at the other places, while those amenities are absent at Sam's. Pricing at 2 cents below the nearby competitors is not sufficient in my opinion. I pay dearly for an annual membership, I should be getting a better deal, like I do with milk.

Gas prices should be at the minimum 5 cents lower per gallon than the lowest competitor in the entire city, not just on the nearby strip! For paying members that is.

Marketing surveys have confirmed that the average person who walks through the door at Sam's spends a hundred dollars per visit. I find it real frustrating to have a cart full of goodies ready to checkout, only to have to wait in real long lines behind other carts and flatbeds full of goodies. The problem here is there are only a couple checkout lines open, and lots of empty checkout stands in between. Since I am a paying member, the service to get checked out quickly is severely lacking.

I can go next door to Wal*Mart and find many, many open checkout lines, with the cashier waiting at the store aisle, asking if I am ready to check out! And I don't even have to pay a membership fee to shop there!

What is wrong with this picture?

I pay over $100 a year for my family membership at Sam's and have been considering dropping it, due to the lack of serious competitive gas prices, as well as the lack of decent service in getting checked out when I am ready to leave.

If Sam's management wants to respond to my concerns, they should do so on this forum, or send me an email to 76702.2473@compuserve.com

capitalism is great, but sams and wal-mart have a monopoly on the retail market. they have also been given all types of exemptions from all over this country from municipalities that regular local store owners never got. not to mention the exploited forein workers situation. this american family,(waltons) have to live inside of a bunker patrolled by armed gaurds. what the hell does that tell you. i say no to wal-mart and sams club. i refuse to feed the hand thats biting me.

I was a Sam's business customer until a few days ago. I tried to pay my Discover Card (card provided through Sam's with Sam's logo and used as a Sam's membership card) with a gift card I received from a client. They would not accept a Sam's gift card as payment on my Sam's Discover credit card account. When I asked for a supervisor and a copy of their policy on this, they COULD NOT provide it. Instead I was given a copy of their RETURN POLICY! I called the Sam's employee (the supervisor) stupid, because she didn't know the difference between a Return Policy and a Gift Card Policy. She said - if I called her names (stupid) again, she would cancel my membership. I said she wouldn't have to, as I was canceling it right then and there. I was refunded my membership fee and then, because I was no longer a member, demanded that I receive full cash credit for a Gift Card I couldn't use. Called Sam's corporate offices and they had the same STUPID supervisor call me back and restate their STUPID, undocumented POLICY! I called Discover and they reiterated the same STUPID policy, so I canceled the Discover Credit Card, too.

BTW, if you want GREAT customer service, use American Express. I have been a very happy user for untold number of years!
