Life Isn't About Waiting For The Storm To Pass, It's About Learning To Dance InTthe Rain.

Many of you know I am a volunteer for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. I have personally seen the impact our special “puppies with a purpose” have had on the lives of visually impaired individuals. Now, Guiding Eyes for the Blind has introduced a new program in which its world-renowned dogs are trained to provide safety for children with autism. Heeling Autism dogs are trained to prevent a child with autism from bolting, and become an important element in keeping the child safe. Families involved in the program have also reported other, life-changing benefits from having a Heeling Autism dog in their homes.

A Heeling Autism dog in a family with an autistic child can:
increase social acknowledgment of the child by his or her peers;
provide companionship;
reduce parental stress; and
increase the child’s level of independence, confidence, and social acceptance.

PepsiCo’s Project Refresh wants to give Guiding Eyes for the Blind’s Heeling Autism program $250,000. We are currently in 6th place but only the top 2 candidates will win. We need your help. Please take a few moments each day in August to cast your vote for us. You can vote up to three times a day…on line, on facebook and by texting from your cell phone. All the information you need is included in the flyer below.

Meet Brian and Joy Murphy

It’s not a secret, I’m supporting Bob Ehrlich for Governor. However, it should not be debatable that Bob’s not the most conservative candidate running. That honor falls to Brian Murphy.

Brian is a bright young man who has a great future ahead of him. He has also been blessed with a lovely wife and a family he can be proud of. He’s full of great ideas and stands on principle. Regardless of how this year’s GOP primary turns out, I hope that Marylanders will take advantage of Brian’s talents in the future.

Here’s just a few of Brian’s ideas on how we can get Maryland’s economy moving again:

H/T:

from Delmarva Dealings

You're An EXTREME Redneck When.....

1. You let your 14-year-old daughter smoke at the dinner table in front of her kids.

2. The Blue Book value of your truck goes up and down depending on how much gas is in it.

3. You've been married three times and still have the same in-laws.

4. You think a woman who is out of your league bowls on a different night.

5. You wonder how service stations keep their rest-rooms so clean.

6. Someone in your family died right after saying, 'Hey, guys, watch this.'

7. You think Dom Perignon is a Mafia leader.

8. Your wife's hairdo was once ruined by a ceiling fan.

9. Your junior prom offered day care.

10. You think the last words of the Star-Spangled Banner are 'Gentlemen, start your engines.'

11. You lit a match in the bathroom and your house exploded right off its wheels.

12. The Halloween pumpkin on your porch has more teeth than your spouse.

13. You have to go outside to get something from the fridge.

14. One of your kids was born on a pool table.

15. You need one more hole punched in your card to get a freebie at the House of Tattoos.

16. You can't get married to your sweetheart because there's a law against it.

17. You think loading the dishwasher means getting your wife drunk.

Oh Boy!

FATHER OF THE GROOM

This is from WCPO Channel 9 News Sports Director, John Popovich.

Before I came to Cincinnati, I was a news reporter at WOC in Davenport Iowa. I covered a lot of city council and a lot of political stuff.

One of the guys I covered was Ed Mezvinsky, who was the Congressman from Iowa's first district. Seemed like a pretty nice guy, but when he ditched his wife for a New York reporter, the Iowa voters ditched him. My most vivid memory is that he sat on the House Judiciary Committee that was deciding the fate of President Nixon.

Anyway, years later, "Fast Eddie" got caught with his hand in the till. He cheated investors out of more than $10 million dollars.

He went to prison for several years. Released in 2008 after serving five years in federal prison, former congressman Ed Mezvinsky had pleaded guilty to 31 of 69 charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, and bank fraud.

Recently, his son married Chelsea Clinton.

He should fit in well with the other friends of Bill.

SHORE MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER IGNITING GASOLINE HE PUMPED INTO CAR OF ESTRANGED WIFE

(Stevensville, MD) – Maryland State Police have obtained an arrest warrant for an Eastern Shore man they are guarding in a hospital today after he ignited gasoline he pumped into the car his wife was in last night, causing an explosion and fire.

The suspect is identified as Pernell Clanton Jr., 47, of the 100-block of Forest Drive, Grasonville, Md. After consultation with the Queen Anne County State’s Attorney’s Office, criminal investigators from the Centreville Barracks have obtained an arrest warrant charging Pernell Clanton with attempted first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, first degree malicious burning, first and second degree arson, and two counts of malicious destruction of property over $500.

Pernell Clanton is currently under guard by state troopers at Bayview Hospital where he is being treated for injuries sustained from the fire he started. The charges are expected to be served on him upon his release from the hospital.

The victim is identified as the suspect’s wife, Yolanda M. Clanton, 43, who had been living at the same address as her husband until recently, when the two became estranged and she began staying with a relative. Yolanda Clanton is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital for burns she sustained to her face and arm.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police from the Centreville Barracks were dispatched to a report of an explosion and fire at a convenience store in the 100-block of Main Street, Stevensville, Md. Responding troopers found a 2002 Dodge Intrepid fully engulfed in flames, parked by a gas pump. The victim and suspect were both still at the scene.

The victim advised troopers that her husband called her last night and asked that she pick him up from a bar in the area. The victim picked up her estranged husband in her car. According to the victim, Pernell Clanton told her he wanted to put gas in her car, so she stopped at the convenience store gas pumps. She said her husband went into the store and when he came back, he was smoking a cigar.

As he began pumping gas into her fuel tank while smoking, the victim said she told her husband he should not be smoking around the gas pumps. She said at that time, while she was still seat-belted in the driver’s seat, her husband removed the pump nozzle from the gas tank and began pumping gas into the interior of the car through the open rear window.

While she struggled to unfasten her seat belt and exit the car, the victim said her husband used a lighter to ignite the gasoline inside the car. The gasoline exploded just as she exited the vehicle.

Another motorist was pumping gas nearby when the explosion occurred. He ran to the emergency cutoff switch for the gas pumps and shut the system down.

Fire crews from the Stevensville Volunteer Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze. The victim’s car was burned completely, but neither the gas pumps nor the store building caught fire.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene, but has since sought treatment at a hospital. Troopers arrested Pernell Clanton at the scene and transported him to the Centreville Barracks.

While at the barracks, troopers summoned EMS personnel to examine the suspect. Due to the burns on his face and arm, a paramedic determined he should be transported to the hospital. A Maryland State Police helicopter transported the suspect to Bayview Hospital in Baltimore where he remains.

Deputy state fire marshals from the Office of the State Fire Marshal responded to the scene and assisted troopers with the investigation. They processed the fire scene and collected evidence. A State Fire Marshal’s K-9 team examined the area and the dog alerted to the presence of an accelerant on the victim’s clothes and inside the car.

The investigation is continuing.

TROOPER INVOLVED SHOOTING UPDATE

(Mt. Airy, MD) – Troopers have obtained an arrest warrant for the domestic assault suspect who remains in the hospital under police guard after he was wounded by a state trooper last night when he pointed what appeared to be a handgun at him.

The suspect is identified as Hugh M. Alexander III, 29, who has been living with his girlfriend, Sara A. Totuschek, 44, the victim of the assault, in the 1700-block of Trestle Street, Mt. Airy, Md. Early this morning, after consultation with the Carroll County States Attorneys Office, Maryland State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Alexander, charging him with two counts each of first and second degree assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, and reckless endangerment.

Alexander remains under State Police guard at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. He was transferred there from the Carroll Hospital Center early this morning.

The trooper involved is identified as Trooper First Class Edward J. Witanowski, a five and one-half year veteran of the Maryland State Police. TFC Witanowski is assigned to the Westminster Barrack, where he works as a resident trooper in the town of Mt. Airy.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. yesterday, TFC Witanowski was dispatched to Totuschek’s address after she called 911 and reported an assault. When the trooper arrived, Totuschek met him in the parking lot and said Alexander had struck her and repeatedly tried to choke her.

While waiting in the parking lot for backup, TFC Witanowski saw Alexander walk out of townhome toward him, holding what appeared to be a handgun. Witnesses told State Police investigators that Alexander was pointing the weapon at the trooper and they heard the trooper repeatedly tell Alexander to drop the gun. The trooper was in full uniform and was standing near his marked patrol car.

In fear for his life, TFC Witanowski fired his State Police issued .40 caliber Beretta pistol at Alexander, striking him in the leg. The trooper gave the suspect immediate first aid and summoned EMS personnel.

Investigators recovered the gun Alexander was pointing at the trooper. It has been identified as a Crossman 4.5mm pellet pistol. The metal gun is black and is the same size and shape of a semi-automatic pistol.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation into the shooting, as is procedure. They are being assisted by troopers from the Westminster Barrack Criminal Investigation Section. The Maryland State Police Internal Affairs Unit is also conducting an investigation, as is procedure.

Troopers secured the scene at the townhome last night while criminal investigators applied for a search warrant before processing the scene for evidence. While awaiting the search warrant, the domestic assault victim, Totuschek, tried to re-enter her residence after being told by troopers she could not until after the scene was processed. Troopers stopped Totushek and were escorting her away from the home when she assaulted one of the troopers. Totushek was arrested and charged with assault early this morning. After processing, she was released on her personal recognizance by a court commissioner.

The trooper remains on routine administrative leave which is procedure, pending the outcome of the investigation. The investigation will be presented to the Carroll County States Attorneys Office for review upon completion.

BUNDY HURLS ANOTHER GEM IN 2-0 SHOREBIRDS WIN

Planeta Turns In Two Excellent Plays in Right Field

Hickory, NC
– Bobby Bundy followed a nine-inning complete game performance against Lakewood on August 16th, with a seven-inning shutout of Hickory on Sunday afternoon to lead the Shorebirds to a 2-0 win at L.P. Frans Stadium. The series is now level at one game apiece.

Both offenses were held in check through the first seven innings. The Shorebirds managed only five hits through seven innings, while the Crawdads recorded just three.

Hickory starter Braden Tullis went six innings and allowed four hits and no runs. He struck out four and walked two.

The Shorebirds finally got on the board in the eighth inning against relief pitcher Kyle Ocampo. Ty Kelly led off with a chopper into center field. Mike Flacco followed with a walk. Then, Levi Carolus ripped a single into left-center field to plate Kelly to give the ‘Birds a 1-0 edge. Ocampo was taken out of the game after the Carolus hit in favor of Johan Yan. After Omar Casaymayor grounded into a double play, Carolus scored a passed ball charged to catcher Leonel De Los Santos.

Shorebirds starter Bobby Bundy earned his second straight win in seven shutout frames. Bundy allowed just three hits. He retired eight consecutive batters between the fourth and seventh innings. In his last 16 innings, Bundy has allowed just eight hits and two runs.

James Brandhorst tossed a scoreless eighth inning for Delmarva. He has not allowed a run in his last seven outings, spanning 9.1 innings.

David Walters entered in the ninth inning and earned his third save of the season. The Crawdads plated a run on a single by Jared Bolden. Walters got Matt West to ground out to short to end the game.

Right fielder Mikey Planeta turned in two excellent plays in right field. In the third inning, he recorded his South Atlantic League leading 14th outfield assist as he gunned out Ed Koncel trying to stretch out a single. Then, with one out in the ninth inning, Planeta dove forward to rob Jared Prince of a single.

Orioles fourth rounder Trent Mummey went 0-for-5 in his debut with the ‘Birds.

The Shorebirds and Crawdads play game three of the series on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. RHP Brent Allar makes the start for the Shorebirds against lefty Miguel De Los Santos.

FOURTH ROUNDER TRENT MUMMEY JOINS SHOREBIRDS

Auburn Standout Set to Debut for ‘Birds

Hickory, NC
- The Baltimore Orioles announced on Sunday that Orioles fourth selection in the 2010 First Year Player Draft, Trent Mummey, has been promoted to Delmarva. He has joined the Shorebirds in Hickory and is in the starting lineup for game two of the series against the Crawdads.

Mummey signed his first professional contract on June 24, 2010 after being selected in the fourth round (118th overall) by the Baltimore Orioles.

The 21-year old was immediately assigned to the Aberdeen Ironbirds. In 49 games, he hit .266 with three home runs and 24 RBIs. Mummey was named to the New York-Penn League All-Star Team.

The Pinson, Alabama product played his college baseball at Auburn University. In 2010, Mummey hit .366 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs in just 36 games. He also stole eight bases in nine attempts. Mummey was named First Team All-SEC. He is also a two-time member of the SEC All Defensive Team. Mummey committed just two errors in his final two seasons with the Tigers as the everyday center fielder.

For his three-year career at Auburn, Mummey hit .315 with 36 home runs and 119 RBIs.
“I am very pleased to have a high profile player like Mummey join the Shorebirds, said manager Ryan Minor. “I’m look forward to watching him develop and at the same time helping this team win down the stretch of the season.”

Uncle Steny Blames Bush

A new report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) gives fresh ammunition to supporters and opponents of the tax cuts enacted by President George W. Bush.

The CBO document released Thursday said a short-term extension of the Bush-era tax breaks would boost GDP and cut unemployment, but warned that continuing them for too long would wreak havoc on the economy.

All of the Bush-era tax cuts are slated to expire in December, setting up a showdown this fall in Congress over which tax breaks should be extended.

According to the CBO, continuing the Bush tax cuts would help boost the gross domestic product 0.6 to 1.7 percentage points in 2011 and shave the national unemployment rate by 0.3 to 0.8 percent.

Democratic leaders have long argued that extending the tax cuts would add to the federal deficit and depress the economy.

On the other side of the debate, Republicans, and more than a few Democrats, argue the tax cuts should be kept in place to help the economy recover.

Shortly after the CBO released its report, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) blasted Republicans for proposing to extend Bush policies that he claims failed to rescue the economy from a historically tough recession.

“As Democrats fight for fiscal discipline and a strong economy, Republicans are advocating for a return to the exact same agenda that created enormous deficits and drove our economy into the deepest recession in a generation,” he said in prepared remarks.

“Going back to the failed Bush policies of the past is not the right direction for our country,” Hoyer added.

[Note to Uncle Steny: This year's deficit under the Democrats is the largest in US history. Bush was out riding fences on his ranch. --Editor]

Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) on Wednesday said extending all of the Bush tax breaks is crucial to job creation.

“By extending current tax rates, Congress could go a long way toward accomplishing what the administration has been trying to do for almost two years: create jobs,” he said in prepared remarks. “So far, the Obama administration has tried to create jobs by spending money on initiatives packaged as economic ‘stimulus.’ But that approach has not worked.”

NY Candidate: Prison Dorms For Welfare Recipients

NEW YORK — Republican candidate for governor Carl Paladino said he would transform some New York prisons into dormitories for welfare recipients, where they could work in state-sponsored jobs, get employment training and take lessons in "personal hygiene."

Paladino, a wealthy Buffalo real estate developer popular with many tea party activists, isn't saying the state should jail poor people: The program would be voluntary.

But the suggestion that poor families would be better off in remote institutions, rather than among friends and family in their own neighborhoods, struck some anti-poverty activists as insulting.

Paladino is competing for the Republican nomination with former U.S. Rep. Rick Lazio. The primary is Sept. 14.

A Year After Claiming The Economy As His Own, Obama Blames Bush

President Obama this summer has repeatedly blamed George W. Bush for the nation’s economic woes, a year after he took ownership of the economy and criticized those who “carp and gripe.”

The White House’s effort to tie congressional Republicans to Obama’s predecessor comes less than three months before the midterm elections. But the president’s campaign speeches this summer contrast to a speech he delivered in Michigan last year when his approval ratings were 17 points higher.

During a July 14, 2009, address in Warren, Mich., Obama said, “Now, my administration has a job to do, as well, and that job is to get this economy back on its feet. That's my job. And it’s a job I gladly accept. I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, ‘Well, this is Obama’s economy.’ That’s fine. Give it to me. My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and carp and gripe.”

At the time, the AP wrote, “With four simple words -- ‘Give it to me’ – President Barack Obama took possession of the economy.”

Throughout this year, though, Obama has continued to blame Bush and the criticism has intensified this month.

As Obama’s approval ratings have fallen though the year, more voters blame him for the state of the economy. A Rasmussen poll of 1,000 likely voters found that 48 percent blame Obama for the nation’s economic problems while 47 percent fault Bush.

For months, Obama has said Republicans drove the economy into a ditch.

He recently said, “We’re slipping and sliding and sweating, and the other side, the Republicans, they’re standing with their Slurpees watching us.”

[Isn't that precious? The folks who locked the Republicans out of the conferences while they 'slipped and slid' writing 2000-page mega-bills full of secret deals now say the Republicans did nothing to help. --Editor]

He added, “Finally we get this car to level ground…and what happens? [Republicans] want the keys back. Well, you can’t have the keys back…You got us in the ditch.”

During his speech in Seattle, Obama said, “The truth is it’s going to take a few years to fully dig ourselves out of this recession. It’s going to take time to bring back 8 million jobs. Anybody who tells you otherwise is just looking for your vote. But here’s what I can tell you: After 18 months, I have never been more confident that our nation is headed in the right direction.”

Teachers Asked To 'Unfriend' Students On Facebook

Florida school district says teacher-student 'friending' is 'inappropriate'

A school district in Florida is advising teachers not to "friend" students on social networking sites, claiming that teacher-student communication through this medium is "inappropriate."

Earlier this week, Lee County school officials issued a list of guidelines to teachers suggesting they don’t correspond with students through sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. The guidelines for the 2010-2011 academic year also warned teachers to be careful when using communication to prevent legal or workplace issues that could surface.

"It is inappropriate for employees to communicate, regardless of the reason, with current students enrolled in the district on any public social networking website," the guidelines said.

"This includes becoming 'friends' or allowing students access to personal web pages for communication reasons."

This is the first school district in the state of Florida, possibly even the country, to issue teacher-protocol guidelines for social media.

Salisbury News Breaks Former Record Day

While everyone was busy enjoying a beautiful Saturday, (or so I thought) Salisbury News had a record day yesterday. Go figure!

I apologize for not posting news as it was breaking Friday evening and Saturday. I was out at numerous events. While I have your attention, I want to thank ALL of you for showing your support at the Wicomico Farm and Home Show. I have been attending this event for the past couple of years and while I'm not privy to the actual volume of people who attended, I can tell you I thought it was the busiest I've ever seen it. We'll touch more on that tomorrow but I just wanted to thank everyone for coming.

I will provide several Posts tomorrow with a ton of photos. It's going to be very difficult to pick and choose just what images I'll put up as I took several hundred pictures and there are even more events today.

More importantly, Thank You for visiting Salisbury News. We truly appreciate it.

Senators Line Up To Tell U.N. To Leave Kids Alone

Thirty-one Republican senators have agreed to oppose the United Nations' "Convention on the Rights of the Child" treaty, and critics of the international plan to vest children with a long list of rights – such as a right to seek government review of parental decisions – are looking for three more names.

The campaign by supporters of ParentalRights.org opposes an effort to put the U.N. advocacy plan into operation in the United States.

So far, the senators who have joined to oppose what critics have described as a usurpation of parents' rights by international bureaucrats are: Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain of Arizona, Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson of Georgia, Sens. Mike Crapo and James Risch of Idaho, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Sens. Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts of Kansas, Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky, Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana, Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker of Mississippi, Sen. Christopher Bond of Missouri, Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska, Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Sens. Tom Coburn and James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Sens. Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas, Sens. Robert Bennett and Orrin Hatch of Utah and Sens. John Barrasso and Michael Enzi of Wyoming.

Senator Barbara Boxer and others have been pressuring the Senate leadership to quickly ratify the treaty.

The resolution states the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child should not even be presented to the Senate for a vote, which would require two-thirds approval for ratification, because it "is contrary to the principles of self-government and federalism, and ... because the United Nations Convention on the Rights of theChild undermines traditional principles of law in the United States regarding parents and children."The 1990s-era plan was pushed through the U.N. and ratified quickly by 193 nations worldwide, but not the U.S. or Somalia. In Somalia, there was no recognized government to do the formal recognition, and in the United States there's been opposition to its power. When ratified, nations then are bound to follow the international document as law.

Obama Administration Blocks Release Of Pivotal HHS Abstinence Study

The Obama administration is, once again, entangled in controversy over sex education.

Yet this time, it is not about what the administration is trying to implement, but about what it is withholding – and apparently for political reasons.

A taxpayer-funded study that indicates parental and adolescent support of abstinence education is not being released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), as it does not support the administration’s objective – or that of vocal “safe sex” activists – of eliminating all abstinence-education funding.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), a division of HHS, funded a survey of 1,000 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 and their parents, in order to measure parent-adolescent communication and adolescent attitudes toward sex and abstinence.

The American Public Health Association’s (APHA) website reveals the results of the survey:

“Adjusting for all other factors in the model, parent and peer factors are more consistently associated with differences in adolescent attitudes about sex and abstinence than are measures of adolescent exposure to sex and abstinence topics in a class or program.

Additionally, parent attitudes are more important in influencing adolescent views than the level of parent communication with their adolescent.”

The executive summary revealed that:

* 70 percent of parents agreed with the statement: “It is against your values for your adolescents to have sexual intercourse before marriage.
* 70 percent of parents agreed with the statement: “Having sexual intercourse is something only married people should do.”
* Adolescents had similar responses for the two questions.

During an APHA conference, researcher Lisa Rue, Ph.D., who specializes in adolescent behavior, was intrigued by the study and requested the full report. She was summarily denied access.

Rue then resorted to submitting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, which was also denied because it was “pre-decisional and deliberative” – even though it was presented in public twice.

Clinton Administration's Chickens Come Home To Roost

On August 16, 2010 the U.S. Department of Defense released a congressionally mandated report entitled "Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China 2010."

The release of the report created worldwide headlines and has been taken seriously by military analysts.

One of the best and most direct headlines was written in introducing a story by Washington Times National Security Reporter Bill Gertz, who described what the DOD Report said:

"China is pursuing a variety of air, sea, undersea, space and counterspace, and information warfare systems and operational concepts to achieve this capability, moving toward an array of overlapping, multilayered offensive capabilities extending from China's coast into the western Pacific," the report said of the anti-access arms.

This report captures in some detail a very real clear and present danger to America and our Pacific Rim allies by the ongoing modernization of the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA). "PLA" is a term that can be accepted generically to include all PRC military forces.

However, this very dangerous PLA trend should come as no surprise because the U.S. Congress officially predicted it with great detail over a decade ago.

On January 3, 1999, a Select Committee in the House of Representatives issued a bipartisan report from the "Select Committee on U.S. National Security and Military/Commercial Concerns with the People's Republic of China."

The three-volume unclassified report is know as the "Cox/Dicks Report."

The three volumes identify in great detail all the military technologies stolen by the PLA that are now operational or in the very near-term PLA modernization pipeline. It is very fair to say all U.S. state-of-the-art military technology stolen in the late 20th century is now flowing into various PLA forces -- ground, sea, air, space, and cyber.

Essentially, a decade after the Clinton administration sold out national security to Chinese military intelligence agents, the U.S. is in the proverbial "hurt locker."

Men and women in uniform may eventually pay a huge price for these illegal campaign contributions.

State-sponsored "criminality" by the PRC is just another dimension of warfare for them. It is the linkage of PRC business and the PLA with criminality. The melding of the PLA with PRC business and foreign policy objectives while cheating and bribing is a real and growing military problem, and this trend is as much a national security issue as law enforcement issue.

For example, First Lady Hillary Clinton had her Chief of Staff Maggie Williams accept a check for $50,000 in the White House from Johnny Chung. Mr. Chung, who legitimately expressed remorse as he was facing charges, fingered a Chinese General in PLA intelligence as a source of the funds for the White House check. The $50,000 was presented on behalf of known PRC citizens for their access to President Clinton's Saturday morning national radio address.

Any foreign money into the American political process is illegal. But this was an especially egregious instance, since Clinton is now Secretary of State and is rumored to be in consideration for the position of Secretary of Defense.

National Education Association Selling Its Saul

The National Education Association (NEA), the U.S.'s largest labor union, is promoting communism to the millions of American public school teachers it represents.

For the past several months, the NEA website has recommended that its members read books by communist sympathizer Saul Alinsky. And, for a time, the website listed October 1 as a day for teachers and students to celebrate the anniversary of the Communist takeover of China by Mao Zedong.

Saul Alinsky, who has been described by his biographer Sanford Horwitt as a "Communist fellow-traveler," wanted to transfer power from the so-called Haves to the so-called Have-nots and transform the U.S. into a communist state.

In his book, Rules for Radicals, Alinsky states, "A Marxist begins with his prime truth that all evils are caused by the exploitation of the proletariat by the capitalists. From this he logically proceeds to the revolution to end capitalism, then into the third stage of reorganization into a new social order of the dictatorship of the proletariat, and finally the last stage-the political paradise of communism."

Alinsky's amoral attitude extended beyond communist ideology; he completely rejected the Judeo-Christian principles America was founded on. He dedicated the first edition of Rules for Radicals to Lucifer: "Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins-or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom -- Lucifer."

American children are not being taught that Alinsky's "paradise of communism" has never shown up. They are not learning that the world's greatest famines and mass murders have occurred under communist regimes.

And the NEA wants to keep it that way.

The Center for American Progress, which received $110,000 from NEA, published a report recommending the elimination of several subjects from U.S. federal education programs, including "Academies for American History and Civics," "We the People," and "Excellence in Economic Education."

American history, civic education, and economic and financial literacy are the three most important subjects for producing an educated electorate -- and yet they are the very subjects at risk of being eliminated from primary and secondary public education.

Don't expect students to learn these subjects at the tertiary level; a study conducted by the nonprofit American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) found that both public and private universities are failing to require students to learn important subjects, especially American history, American government, and economics.

Despite Recent Record Spending, Congress Failed To Fund Detention Space For Illegals

Even as Congress increased overall federal spending from a then-record $2.6 trillion in fiscal 2006 to $3.6 trillion in fiscal 2010, it only appropriated enough funds for the Department of Homeland Security to provide a fraction of the additional 40,000 detention spaces for illegal aliens that had been authorized by an immigration law approved in 2004.

Because it lacked adequate detention space, DHS says it was forced over the last three years to release hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens it had caught and were being processed for deportation. Among these, as CNSNews.com recently reported, were 481 illegal aliens from state sponsors of terror and other "countries of interest" that DHS caught and released in fiscal years 2007-2009 and who are now fugitives whose wherabouts is unknown.

These 481 caught-and-released fugitive illegal aliens from terror sponsors and "countries of interest" include 97 citizens of Nigeria, the country from which Northwest Flight 253 hijacker Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab hailed. They also include 8 citizens of Yemen, the country where Abdulmutallab was recruited by al Qaeda, as well as 87 Pakistanis, 34 Lebanese, 29 Iranians, 22 Somalians, 14 Sudanese, 13 Syrians, 8 Algerians, 4 Afghans, and 2 Saudia Arabians.

In 2006, Congress did provide a special appropriation of $3 billion to DHS to enhance border security. This included a provision for increasing the detention beds to 45,000, but those beds were not added. Currently, there are only 33,400 beds available for detaining illegal aliens--and some critics charge not all of those are being used.

They Won't Build It!

Hardhats vow not to work on controversial mosque near Ground Zero

A growing number of New York construction workers are vowing not to work on the mosque planned near Ground Zero.

"It's a very touchy thing because they want to do this on sacred ground," said Dave Kaiser, 38, a blaster who is working to rebuild the World Trade Center site.

"I wouldn't work there, especially after I found out about what the imam said about U.S. policy being responsible for 9/11," Kaiser said.

The grass-roots movement is gaining momentum on the Internet. One construction worker created the "Hard Hat Pledge" on his blog and asked others to vow not to work on the project if it stays on Park Place.

"Thousands of people are signing up from all over the country," said creator Andy Sullivan, a construction worker from Brooklyn. "People who sell glass, steel, lumber, insurance. They are all refusing to do work if they build there."

"Hopefully, this will be a tool to get them to move it," he said. "I got a problem with this ostentatious building looming over Ground Zero."

HISTORICAL COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER

The Annual Picnic

One of the biggest events in my young life during the 1940’s was the annual Martin & Schwartz summer picnic. Martin & Schwartz was the company that moved here from Buffalo, NY in 1939. It was subsequently named Wayne Pump Co., followed by Dresser Industries. The picnic was held at various places such as Sandy Hill in 1948 and Cedar Grove on the Choptank River near Cambridge in 1949. The 1948 picnic had 284 people in attendance, and the records show that about 290 attended in 1949. The festivities were for all of the employees of Martin & Schwartz and their families. It seemed as if everybody that worked there attended. On this special day there were no “bosses”, and the “brass” acted like regular human beings. One of the greatest traits a person can have is to laugh at themselves. Everybody seemed to get a real kick out of seeing someone who is usually so serious entered into the many contests that were held.

There were the usual activities at the picnic, such as the balloon race (pictured above) and a tug-of-war. At Cedar Grove, in 1949, there were motor boat rides. It is still in my memory seeing usually serious men and women acting like children. They had contests geared for the different age groups so that everybody had a chance to enter something. Swimming was also available if you so desired.

The picnics started at 1 P. M. with the commencement of the games and festivities. Socializing with the other members of the Martin & Schwartz “family” was always enjoyable. And that is what it was – a family. Mothers would show off their new additions, and the men would just enjoy themselves for a few hours without the pressures of work. Of course, to us children, just being at the picnic was a new and different experience. I was only four and five during these two picnics, so I imagine I stayed pretty close to Mom.

A fried chicken dinner was served at 5:30, followed by the drawing for the four grand prizes. The prizes consisted of the following: (1948) a $25.00 savings bond, a table radio, a pop-up toaster and a first-grade surf-casting fishing reel and (1949) a $25.00 savings bond, large Pfleuger fishing reel, a portable Philco radio and a fancy aluminum fishing tackle box. The prizes seem pretty paltry by today’s standards, but they were a big deal back in the 1940’s.

I don’t know when they ceased having these picnics, but they were probably lost in the shuffle of all the corporate changes that began to be made in the early 1950’s.

Louis Coletti, president of the Building Trades Employers' Association, said unions have not yet taken a "formal position" on Park51, but he understands why members would be hesitant to work there.

"It's a very difficult dilemma for the contractors and the organized labor force because we are experiencing such high levels of unemployment," he said. "Yet at the same time, this is a very sacred sight to the union guys."

"There were construction workers killed on 9/11 and many more who got horribly sick cleaning up Ground Zero," Coletti said. "It's very emotional."

Glenn Beck: Obama Administration 'Most Corrupt Of All Time'

Fox News host Glenn Beck tells Newsmax that President Barack Obama's White House qualifies as the most corrupt administration in U.S. history.

"There are so many things that this administration has done that I think will go down in history as ... it's going to go down in history as the most corrupt administration ever," Beck says in an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview.

Beck's no-holds-barred assessment of the Obama administration's ethics comes as he is promoting an Aug. 28 celebration at the Lincoln Memorial called Restoring Honor.

The remark came as Newsmax.TV sought Beck's reaction to a recent statement that GOP Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl attributed to Obama.

Kyl said he asked Obama to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, but the president refused because it would reduce Republicans' incentive to compromise on immigration reform. The White House denied Kyl's account, but former Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo wrote in op-ed column that Obama's stance "constitutes an impeachable offense."

Asked if he agrees with Tancredo, Beck replies "I'll leave that up to them."

But he goes on to say: "If the story is ever told, if the journalists ever decide to regain their soul to their journalist god – whoever that is, Walter Lippmann or I don't know who – if they ever care to redeem their soul, and actually look into the corruption and things that are going on in this administration, this administration will be exposed as the most corrupt of all time."

The Fox News luminary added that former President George W. Bush also failed in his duty to secure the border.

In the interview, Beck points to a recent Gallup poll that shows the 76 percent of Americans have a great deal of confidence in the U.S. military – much higher than the public has in any other institution.

Congress, by comparison, enjoys the confidence of 11 percent. The presidency has the confidence of 36 percent.

Big business and organized labor score 19 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

"I was pondering why [the military], and it's because they're honorable," Becks says. "They'll do the tough things. They'll do them because they're the right things to do. And we still believe in them … generally speaking, they are the only things we still believe in, that and our religious organizations."

Nearly 50 Percent Leave Obama Mortgage-Aid Program

Nearly half of the 1.3 million homeowners who enrolled in the Obama administration's flagship mortgage-relief program have fallen out.

The program is intended to help those at risk of foreclosure by lowering their monthly mortgage payments. Friday's report from the Treasury Department suggests the $75 billion government effort is failing to slow the tide of foreclosures in the United States, economists say.

More than 2.3 million homes have fallen into foreclosure since the recession began in December 2007, according to foreclosure listing service RealtyTrac Inc. Economists expect the number of foreclosures to grow well into next year.

"The government program as currently structured is petering out. It is taking in fewer homeowners, more are dropping out and fewer people are ending up in permanent modifications," said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics.

Besides forcing people from their homes, foreclosures and distressed home sales have pushed down on home values and crippled the broader housing industry. They have made it difficult for homebuilders to compete with the depressed prices and discouraged potential sellers from putting their homes on the market.

Many borrowers have complained that the government program is a bureaucratic nightmare. They say banks often lose their documents and then claim borrowers did not send back the necessary paperwork.

The banking industry said borrowers weren't sending back their paperwork. They also have accused the Obama administration of initially pressuring them to sign up borrowers without insisting first on proof of their income. When banks later moved to collect the information, many troubled homeowners were disqualified or dropped out.

Obamacare’s Stealth Aambush Of Senior Citizens

Even Obamacare’s biggest cheerleaders won’t be able to ignore Medicare chief actuary Richard Foster forever. Based on current law, Foster says, seniors who rely on Medicare will replace Medicaid recipients at the bottom of the health care ladder as early as 2019, five years after the individual mandate kicks in. That’s when the fees Medicare pays to providers will be slashed below Medicaid rates, which are already well below market prices.

“And if you’re in a plan that pays the lowest rates, you’re in trouble,” John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, told The Examiner.

That’s because the $575 billion cut to Medicare over the next decade — which is needed to pay insurance subsidies for 32 million new people — will force one in seven hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies and hospices out of business, according to the formal Medicare trustees report released on April 22. By 2050, 40 percent of existing health care facilities will forced to close their doors.

Nearly half of the 32 million newly insured people will be enrolled in Medicaid (those whose incomes are at or below 133 percent of the poverty line will have no choice), but they shouldn’t expect the level of care that current Medicaid recipients receive, Goodman adds.

“For many low-income people, there’s not going to be much difference. Now they get care at community health centers and hospital emergency rooms. The Medicaid system won’t be able to handle them in a substantially different way. They’ll end up going to the same doctors and the same facilities they go to as uninsured.”

But there will be one difference: The wait for care will be much, much longer.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT SUSPECT WOUNDED AFTER THREATENING TROOPER

(Mt. Airy, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a police involved shooting that occurred last night in Carroll County when a domestic assault suspect was wounded by a state trooper after he ignored orders to drop the weapon he was carrying and pointed at the trooper.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barrack received a 911 call from a woman in the 1700-block of Trestle Street, Mt. Airy, MD, who said she had just been assaulted by her boyfriend. She said her boyfriend struck her and tried repeatedly to choke her.

A state trooper responded to the scene within minutes, but remained in the parking lot of the town home development while he waited for backup to arrive. Before backup arrived, the trooper saw the suspect walk out the front door of the victim’s home, carrying what appeared to be a handgun.

Witnesses told State Police investigators the trooper repeatedly told the suspect to drop the weapon. Witnesses also said they saw the suspect point the weapon at the trooper.

In fear for his life, the trooper fired his State Police issued .40 caliber Beretta pistol at the suspect, striking him once in the leg. The trooper gave the suspect immediate first aid and summoned EMS personnel. An ambulance transported the suspect to the Carroll Hospital Center, where he remains under State Police guard.

The trooper was not injured in the incident. The female assault victim did not require transport to a hospital.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded and is conducting the investigation into the shooting, as is procedure. They are being assisted by troopers from the Westminster Barrack Criminal Investigation Section.

Troopers applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence, which was served overnight. Maryland State Police crime scene technicians processed the scene for evidence.

The Maryland State Police Internal Affairs Unit is also conducting an investigation, as is procedure. Also per procedure, the trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Further information, including identities, will be detailed in a follow up news release.

Chairman Scott Statement On July Unemployment Report

ANNAPOLIS – Maryland Republican Party Chairman Audrey Scott released the following statement today after the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) released the July unemployment report:

“Today Martin O’Malley continued to show how out-of-touch he is with Marylanders by celebrating dismal employment numbers while his own agencies admit the economy is sputtering. While we hope for positive economic news, unemployment continues to hover around 26 year highs and O’Malley’s response to today’s jobs numbers is an unfortunate reminder that he just doesn’t get it.

“The DLLR’s numbers are another indication Martin O’Malley’s record tax increases and total disregard for small business owners have done nothing but cripple job creation in Maryland. It’s rather telling that O’Malley would attempt to spin the DLLR’s announcement that our State’s economy has ‘faltered’ for political gain, and is indicative of a Governor more concerned with keeping his own job rather than putting 211,000 unemployed Marylander’s back to work.”

This morning an email from Governor O’Malley touted job creation “Momentum”

“This morning, we announced that Maryland's job creating momentum is continuing.” (Governor Martin O'Malley. mailto:mom@md.state.us “Jobs Across Maryland” 8/20/10.)

But Maryland’s DLLR counters O’Malley’s claims of economic recovery

Amid reports of uncertainties in financial markets, declining consumer confidence and spending and lackluster hiring at the national level, Maryland’s economic recovery faltered in July. Q&A On Student Transportation In Wicomico County

Q&A on Student Transportation in Wicomico County
How do school bus contractors support education in Wicomico County Public Schools?

The Wicomico County school transportation system is comprised of 162 certified school buses that meet or exceed federal, state and local requirements. For 180 days every school year, the 80 school bus contractors with Wicomico County school routes serve more than 12,500 of the system's 14,500 students. The buses operated by these contractors cover more than 2.3 million miles each school year transporting students for instruction and other school-related activities. School buses are a critically important first link in the daily education experience for most Wicomico students, and they represent the safest and most efficient way to transport thousands of young people to and from school every day.

How does school bus transportation work in Wicomico County?

The Wicomico County Board of Education contracts with qualified independent bus contractors to provide transportation on specific routes. Route contracts are granted for a term of one year and are automatically renewable annually. A contractor may be the owner of one bus, or up to ten (10) route buses. The contractor is the owner of the school vehicle, and neither the contractors, drivers or bus aides employed by the contractor are school system employees. The contractor purchases and provides the bus to deliver students to and from school according to the contracted route. In Wicomico County a new bus may be operated as a regular route bus for up to 15 years. For these services, the school system pays the contractor:

Annual Per Vehicle Allotment (PVA): In 2009-10, $15,300 for a regular route bus, $17,800 for a special education bus with lift and air conditioning. For 2010-11, the PVA rose to $16,230 for a regular route bus (for years 1-12; the rate is $7,846 for years 13-15), with a $1,365 yearly add-on for buses with full AC (years 1-12) and an AC maintenance fee for buses with AC of $400. The rate for special education buses is now $18,100 (years 1-12; the PVA for years 13-15 is $8,760). For 2010-11, the rates represent a 6.08 % increase in the PVA for regular route buses, a 1.69 % increase in the PVA for special education buses, and two brand new payments to help offset the cost of AC for drivers who purchase buses with AC. Over 15 years, the school system will provide a contractor purchasing a new bus with AC with $236,664 through the PVA, more than covering the cost of a new bus.

Administrative supplement fee: $1,560 per routed school vehicle

Paid spare bus reimbursement rate: $5,280

Field trips: Hourly rate of $18.03, a per-mile maintenance factor of $.81, fuel factor of $.42, and pickup fee of $20. The minimum field trip payment is $55.

Fuel adjustment base rate: $3.31.

The typical payment for services works out to about $3.09 per mile.

The 2010-11 contractor reimbursement schedule for bus contractors in Wicomico County (included in the Fiscal Year 2010-11 Approved Unrestricted General Fund Operating Budget) is the second-highest among school systems on the Eastern Shore when applied to a sample route of 4.5 hours and 60 miles. When compared to other Eastern Shore county school systems using contracted school bus services, the 2010 – 2011 PVA ranks fourth, the hourly rate ranks fifth and the mileage rate ranks second.

The school system spends approximately $8 million on student transportation each year, including the cost of auto liability insurance to cover the transportation of students and school system employees on buses.

Wargotz Asks Mikulski "Where Are The Jobs?"

Latest unemployment claims show Mikulski failures

Annapolis
- Yesterday, the Labor Department said initial claims for unemployment insurance rose to a seasonally adjusted 500,000 people. Economists had expected that number to drop not increase. This is the highest level since November of 2009. This information comes on the heels of the Labor Department's report of 131,000 jobs lost in the month of July.

"Where are the jobs Senator Mikuslki?" Eric Wargotz M.D. asked.

Eric Wargotz is a physician and small businessman who understands what is needed to create jobs. "The government should give small businesses the tools they need to create jobs." said Wargotz. "Private businesses will create the jobs we need to get us out of this recession not the government."

Wargotz's philosophy is a stark contrast to that of Senator Barbara Mikulski. Ms. Mikulski believes government is the source of job creation. She believes deficit spending on new government programs is the solution to our economic woes. In contrast, Eric Wargotz believes private enterprise will get our economy moving again. Wargotz opposes higher taxes supported by Mikulski and believes we must cut spending to get our national debt under control.

Eric Wargotz recently launched a "Fire Mikulski" billboard campaign across Maryland.
