Driver attempts to drive down stairs at University of Maryland, gets stuck

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (ABC7) — A tow truck had to rescue a car on the University of Maryland campus on March 24 after a driver thought they could drive down steps without any issue.

The car, a black sedan, got stuck on the stairs on the Mayer Mall. Campus police responded, and then the tow truck was called.

The car sustained superficial damage and was driven away, but the driver was not injured.

University spokesperson Katie Lawson said, "The staircase sustained damage, and will remain closed until the necessary repairs are made."

Great example of Maryland academic excellence at your university

How, just how, did an idiot like this ever get into college in the first place. Parents must be proud. "So, how is your son doing in college this year?" "Oh, he's getting to know the steps this year."

They probably Skateboard too and thought it was the same.

How much did his/her parents pay to get them in college?

Not exactly Fast & Furious or James Bond material.

Mom & Dad will be proud. A picture should stay in the family album for future generations.

Going to college, still stupid. Parents should ask for their money back.

When I was in college six of us hauled the housing mananager's VW bug from the parking lot to the dorm's TV room. It wasn't hard, but it was fun.

Back in the day (late sixties) I and some friends picked up a teacher's VW BUG on placed it sideways in front of the front doors of the school lobby, on the sidewalk. There wasn't enough room to turn it and drive it back out off the sidewalk. The school admin. made a HUGE stink about it and wanted to have somebody arrested for the prank. In the end, without confessing to anything, we went out and removed the car the same way we put it there. To this day we think it was hilarious. Too bad it was before cell phones, because it would have been all over the internet. The school photographer did get a picture though, and it ended up in the class yearbook.

At the school my spouse attended they put one in front of the front office doors. Cost them 2 cases of beer to the janitor....something that would never fly today. They were considerate enough to put down plastic and they did remove it after the prank was done. Now days they would be locked up.

Taking Drivers Ed for a major, perhaps?

Salesman said the car would handle like it was on rails but the budding genius behind the wheel thought railings would work also.

just as much fun to put cinder blocks under the rear(or front) drive wheels; you could not see the tires were off the ground just looking at them, but not enough traction to move the car

I see Mathias was given a job at UMES @ $150.000.00 per year. It seems all Dems who lose an election end up at a newly opened and not posted position in the U of Md. System. Democratic welfare isn't just for the poor and needy.

Northwest Woodsman: Take pity on the poor driver. Whoever it was probably was driving an ox cart in Mexico last week and this week they have a real automobile, a cell phone and a drivers license that allows them to vote in your elections. Sad! By the way, I just returned from a trip to Ireland. Better demographics, nice people who are helpful and friendly. My guess is that it results from the lack of stressful race relations issues. Oh and after boarding the plane in Newark on our return flight, there was a demographics issue involving a couple who would not obey flight arrendant instructions and sit down while we were taxiing out for takeoff. Had to taxi back to the gate and evacuate the plane so the police could go on board tha remove the two diversity passengers. Hour delay as they had to refuel the aircraft and re-board the rest of the passengers. Ain’t diversity wonderful? See where this is occurring frequently but it was my first personal experience of it. Low IQ, zero impulse control and lack of ability to foresee consequences causes these problems and the more we allow it, the more frequent it will become.
