School resource officer credited with stopping Maryland school shooter

ST. MARY'S COUNTY, Md. - A school resource officer is being credited with stopping the gunman in a shooting that injured two students at a St. Mary’s County high school Tuesday morning.

Authorities say a 17-year-old student fired shots inside a hallway at Great Mills High School at about 7:55 a.m. Deputies said the shooter, identified as Austin Rollins, shot a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom are also students.

School Resource Officer Deputy 1st Class Blaine Gaskill was alerted to the shooting and according to Sheriff Tim Cameron, he immediately responded and engaged Rollins. Sheriff Cameron said Deputy Gaskill fired at the shooter, and almost simultaneously, the shooter also fired. It’s not clear yet whether Deputy Gaskill’s round hit the shooter.

Great job! Do like he does when firing at a killer, shoot center mass and blow the scumbags heart right out of their chest!

7:25 They don't even know if the SRO hit the shooter or the 14yo male student yet. Try reading and comprehending the article. He responded and being that he may or may not have hit his target as a trained swat officer just goes to show that a real life fire fight is different than shooting paper targets.

You know, that's not a bad idea. And might encourage others who might be otherwise hesitant in doing such a thing as this. We don't need any more Petersen's, or whatever that cop's name is that didn't enter the school in Fla.

Guns are what protect our children. Guns are what saved our childrens lives in this school today. Let the Teachers and staff carry. Common sense is better then political correctness.
