Boycotting the Super Bowl - Veterans, bars, even a bowling alley are saying 'no' to the big game

A growing number of Americans have decided they have better things to do with their time on Super Bowl Sunday than support a professional football league that doesn't have the decency to honor the national anthem.

American Legion and VFW posts, restaurants and bars, and even a bowling alley have decided they will not broadcast the Super Bowl game in their establishments -- out of respect for veterans and law enforcement.

A giant electronic sign outside the Oneota Veterans Club in New York reads, “In honor of our country, our flag, our veterans."

The Knights of Columbus chapter in Longview, Texas decided to end a decades-old tradition of broadcasting the game -- over their "disgust" with the national anthem protests.

"The veterans are especially aggravated by the course of events. This especially hits us as an insult when people are disrespectful of our flag and national anthem," chapter member Vance Lowery told television station KLTV.

VFW posts across the country have also joined the national Super Bowl Sunday boycott.

"They're disrespecting our flag and our national anthem so we no longer watch NFL," VFW Post 8951 member Bob Shank told the York Daily Record. "We have a bunch of veterans here who fought for that flag, fought for that national anthem.”

Not watching was easy. It'll get even easier as time goes by.

I hope that basketball players don't follow their bad example.

Should not let a couple bad apples spoil it for everyone else.
But everyone has an opinion. Nobody kneeled down at the Super Bowl.
You missed a great game.

Curious to hear about anthem kneelers and new armlock defiance instead of hand over heart from players in unity during pregame ceremony? Have not followed since week three. Hows that working out?

I didn't watch the football game and I really feel good about it.

Skipped it for the first time in my life.

Didn't watch it but maybe the NFL should ban the halftime debacle and tone down the so called funny commercials and tell the players to get over their fake issues. the players did not kneel but I saw a picture of them with their fists in the air. same difference

The deaf interpreter for the National Anthem was excellent! Pink, not so much, but nice try.

Players aren’t the only citizens who are sick of this war mongering government. Many of us hate this government. It is an illegal government who usurped its power from the people. The government represents CORPORATE interests including asset stripping 3rd world countries and enslaving their people for unplayable debts.

Wake up folks.

The government is lying to us every day

Dear 4:51,

While I will agree that there are a great many thing wrong in our country, I would invite you to provide specifics so I may further learn of your point of view and perspective. Like many Americans, I am deeply troubled by the seemingly endless revelations put forth in the news. However, I fail to see where professional athletes who are paid to do nothing more than entertain us are using that stage for their own political discourse. Frankly, I have heard nothing from their point of view that is even factually correct. Rather, I see them shaping perception in absence of fact. Since you seem to have more significant insight than I certainly have, I will be interested in the facts you can present.

Respectfully,

Paladin

Point us to that better place.
In the meantime, let's see what demons can be exorcised from our government, and appreciate that it would have lots more if the election had gone the other way.

Move out! You won't be missed. Turkey would be a great place for you.

With all due respect, people that follow the idea of not watching the game are absolutely going about it in the wrong way.
Watch the game! BUT - Join a National movement that promises - vows - to boycott ALL sponsors that run advertising during the game. The boycott would last one month.
I can all but guarantee that a change would be made VERY quickly. MONEY talks!
There must be someone out there that could start this campaign.
