Contraband Cellphones Continue to Thwart Prison Officials

The arrests of five New Jersey inmates this week highlights the ongoing struggles that prison officials face in combating contraband cellphones.

Prisoners generally are allowed to use phones, but only landlines, and only under the close supervision of prison officials. But it is illegal for inmates to possess cellphones, or for anyone to provide them with one.

Nonetheless, some prisoners are able to obtain cellphones, giving them easy access to the outside world — and the tools to commit crimes, from intimidating witnesses and coordinating escapes to running drug rings and putting hits on prosecutors.

Deliveies, services (cable services), visitors , corrupt guards, medical wards many conduits available. Tough nut but, Sting rays, cell blockers should be effective here. Configure a few secure encryted channels available for limited staff. Problem solved

You are just asking the obvious! Prison

Just put jammers in

I agree with jammers for every prison. What does anybody even the guards need cell service for. You are there to watch the prisoners and not to goof off on a cell phone.

The prison guard union will not let them jam the guards cell phones. The whole problem of inmates with cell phones is prison guard induced. Ban all cell phones in prison, no phones come through the gates, and the problem of inmates with cell phones will miraculously go away. If the guards don't have them, the inmates won't have them. And why is it that wardens make hundreds of thousands of dollars in income each year, and can't solve a simple problem like this?

That would not work with all cell phones. Try reading up on a subject instead of spouting off on something you seen in a youtube video.
