Md. lawmakers introduce bills to legalize, tax marijuana

WASHINGTON — Maryland lawmakers are pushing bills that would legalize the possession and cultivation of limited quantities of marijuana and provide for its taxation.

The legislation is being introduced in Annapolis by several lawmakers including Sen. Richard Madaleno, vice chair of the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee, as well as Dels. Curt Anderson and David Moon.

One bill would allow anyone over age 21 to possess and grow marijuana. It would still be illegal to smoke — or otherwise ingest — pot in public or to drive under the influence. The same bill would give the Comptroller’s Office the responsibility for issuing licenses and regulating sales.

Ring a bell?

The "Poultry Fair Share Act," a proposed 5-cent-per-bird wholesale tax offered by Sen. Richard S. Madaleno Jr., a Montgomery County Democrat.

Why do you people keep voting for these moronic Democrats!!! They are going to continue to tax us to death.

It (cannabis) won't go away, so don't pretend that it will.
It's a staple of the illicit drug trade, especially in poverty-stricken areas.
It's costing Marylanders hundreds of millions in law enforcement and court fees every year.
The current laws are meaningless if the perceived problem isn't reined in by them, making the approach not just ineffective, but counterproductive.

Fix it.

Just what we need; another intoxicant and another sin tax. Draw the line and keep pot illegal. There is no upside, other than tax revenue, for this drug to br legalized!! More intoxicants, more problems!

Illegal to drive under the influence? How long does it stay in your system, isn't that several days? Sounds like a back door way for the state to make more revenue to me.

Marijuana is so much safer than alcohol. All the drunks out here driving around killing people is ok. Potheads won't go nowhere but to get food. But some people are stuck on stupid. It has no comparison to coke or heroine. The biggest drug problem is legal prescriptions. But that's ok because a doctor prescribes it. A whole bunch of idiots.
