Leftist Dutch Party Wants to Legalize 'Euthanasia' for Elderly People

It doesn't get much sicker than this (warning: article in Dutch). The left-wing party D66 wants to make euthanasia for people 75 years old and up even if they aren't sick. An "I'm fed up with life" should be enough, the party says, to get a doctor to help these people commit suicide.

D66 will present this new proposal in early 2017. According to the party, there will be clear and strict rules. A so-called expert will have to talk to the suicidal elderly folks several times during a period of two months; another expert will have to rule that the decision was made voluntarily; and, finally, a "commission" will have to review the "application." If everybody agrees, the elderly person can ask his doctor to kill him. All this with the approval of the Dutch government.

The soon-to-be-proposed legislation of D66 is in line with the ideas of the governing coalition, formed by Labour (PvdA) and the VVD (who call themselves classical liberals, but who have increased taxes from the very first day they came to power in 2012). The VVD wants to legalize euthanasia for everybody -- meaning people of all ages, even if they aren't suffering from a sickness that's sure to kill them anyway. At this moment, euthanasia is already legal in the Netherlands for those with incurable, deadly diseases.

What is sick about giving people the freedom to die on their own terms.

Exactly. Well said.

If you think for one minute that is for the benifit or to afford the elderly some dignity
By choosing how they go then your a fool.
Death panels anyone?

I believe it is coming. The baby boom generation is aging and are now reaching retirement age. This will be a big drain on healthcare as well as Social Security and pensions. It's just a matter of time when the "End of Life" counseling options will be forced on the elderly. Turn 65 and will have to report to an end of life counseling center for your options. Kind of like the Scfi Movie Logan's run, or Soyient Green. When you've finally had enough, you report to a center and they show you a nice movie and give you something to make your comfortable while you die painlessly. Unfortunately these options are already in Obama care. I'm 55 and I'm already getting calls and mail concerning pre-planning options for my death. I'm ten years away from retirement, and they are already calling me!

3:04 Ever hear of depression? In this country we treat the disease, not put the person out of their misery!

Yes I've heard of depression. Are you familiar with the clinical definition? By your comment anyone that no longer enjoys the quality of their life must be depressed? I disagree. Life runs a course. If you've lived a fulfilling life and are now alone and or debilitated, I see nothing wrong with making the choice to fold up the tent and call it a day.

Yes everyone is a fool that doesn't agree with you right?

Don't waste your breath on this idiot. It's about personal choice, not death panels or putting the elderly out of their misery. Nothing to do with depression. If I'm in my 80's, had a full enjoyable life and feel like I've done everything I need to do then it's my choice. Not the choice of the holier than thou brigade or anyone else for that matter. My life, my choice.

If I was faced with a slow death in a nursing home wearing diapers, while medicaid takes my home and sells it to pay my nursing home bills...then let me go..same if I had terminal cancer. If my mind is there, it's time for me to check out rather than burden my family with financial and mental stress. I wouldn't like being away from my home and I don't want some hack half @** nurses "dealing" with me rather than caring for me..

I leave God in charge of that. He has His plan for me and for others around me. He brought me this far and I'll leave Him with the rest of the game plan, whatever it is.

He gave me this life, and it is my responsibility to respect that gift until it is taken away by its Giver.

We should have the right to choose how
we die!

If you have watched as many loved ones
I've lost to pain & suffering in their
last days----you would understand ----this
should be our choice not someone elses wishes
for us!

when you watch some people suffer through dialysis and having their dignity taken away from them by having to have a care giver clean them after pooping and peeing on them selves also having to have someone feed them... its very demeaning to that person.... euthanizing patients has been going on for a long time.... ever heard of hospice? i know personally for a fact that coastal hospice has and still does a form of euthanasia... breathing problems at coastal hospice you say? their treatment is morphine and methadone... a respiratory depressant. This needs to happen we have a DNR form to not bring them back we need to have a procedure that speeds up the process. If we kil criminals so they dont feel any pain then why not a loved one that is suffering through agony and pain, allow them to fall asleep and die with dignity still intact instead of (not that it ever would be in my eyes) becoming a problem for someone to deal with.... I hope that if i ever get to that point that someone would give me the right to do this. It sure beats the messy suck starting a shot gun.

My husbands grandmother wasted away in a nursing home for 6years, not knowing anything or anyone for the last 2. The suffering is terrible to see.I'm sure she would not have wanted that life.

We are talking about healthy old people that aren't dying. It was what all the conservative were telling you it was in Obama care, They called them death squads. And yes it is talking to old people about end of life decisions that they shouldn't have to think about before they are even sick. I know of quite a few elderly couples in their nineties that live by themselves. They drive to church and the supermarkets and do everyday chores like a twenty year old. i knoe one ninety year old man that still climbs and cuts down trees, He can probably out work 99% of these millennials. so you are talking about murdering these eldly people or convincing them to commit suicide. Both are against the bible. Only God should have to power to take you when the time has come. And this is hard for me to take Gods side as he just took my wife and she was only sixty years old and wasn't even sick. So I think we should not play God and murder old people and babies by abortion.

God is in charge of your death? So all the people living out a lonely, debilitating, suffering existence should just wait for God to decide? News flash...God is not personally invested in your individual life. Ever heard of free will? Moron.

Anonymous said...

Hey moron God is invested in every ones individuals life. it is just that you are a non-believer.
Which means when you die you are according to the bible going to hell. So I wouldn't be in such a hurry to get there if I were you.

4:44...another news flash. Just for you.

Jesus IS "invested" (what a word to use in this instance) in everyone's individual life.

that's the problem is we kill babies and take that choice from them to live why not a consenting adult

I am sure that some of the requirements will be giving your assets to the govt AND/OR being dependent on the govt (welfare).
